Session Log 7/16/2000 Log

GM says, "*** START SESSION ***"
GM says, "now where we left off last time, you had just arrived back in Praesus, exhausted"
GM says, "when you get up the next morning, Bodoni has also awakened in his own bed, wondering what the hell just happened"
Corin chuckles.
GM says, "most of you need to keep quiet and rest, but corin and joseph are uninjured"
Corin awakens from a long sleep, and seeing the chest beside his bed, remembers the previous day's events.
Corin says, "ooc one sec - phone call."
John has arrived.
John smiles.
Joseph seeing that Bodoni is recovering nicely, takes the papers found in the witches lair to Father Theudar for closer examination.
John says, "am I right on time?"
GM says, "still having time zone problems, eh, Johan?"
John nods.
John says, "I didn't get to sleep until 3 am cst. ug"
Corin says, "b"
John smiles sheepishly
Corin examines the chest, trying to see if he could open it in any way. He examines the hinges on the back also.
GM says, "Joseph heads off to the monastery north of town"
GM says, "one second - phone call"
Bodoni sits up in his bed, and checks to see how badly injured he is
Corin thinks Bodoni is looking like uncooked hamburger right now.
Bodoni (grabs mace, and thumps against his palm a few times, looking meaningfully at Wendy)
Corin says, "you'll be palming it for a few days alright.""
GM says, "i think you can filter out Wendy using MUSHclient if you look through the menu"
Corin says, "know how to?"
GM [to Bodoni]: you are quite badly injured, actually. you have a serious neck wound, and two smaller wounds in torso and leg
John says, "don't Renard and I need to rest extensively also?"
GM [to johan]: essentially everyone except joseph and corin are going to be on their backs for awhile
Corin examines the chest, trying to see if he could open it in any way. He examines the hinges on the back also.
GM [to Corin]: the chest is locked, but it's made of wood so it could probably be broken with enough force. the hinges are metal and don't look impregnable.
GM says, "Garomach rides into town in midmorning, looking red-eyed and haggard, but at least not sneezing"
Corin gets his mother's axe, and swings hard at the chest.
GM [to Corin]: it takes a few minutes, but you hack it open and see a large number of coins inside
Corin gasps at the coins inside, running his hand through the pile.
Bodoni (woohoo! Corin's rich! :D)
Corin thinks of his fellow adventurers, and wonders if they remember the chest.
Corin says, "(Can I count the money?)"
GM [to Corin]: you can't count high enough, but that in itself tells you something. must be more than the equivalent of $1000 in there (using GURPS terminology for $)
Corin grabs a handful and stuffs it in a corner of his room, and closes the chest. He decides to take it to (insert nearest adventurer here) 's house to show him.
Bodoni lies back in his bunk, feeling a bit foolish "Truthfully, I must be rustier than I thought in the traveller's ways."
GM [to Corin]: the nearest is probably Caralchis
Corin hugs his mother, giving her a couple of coins, and sets off to Caralchis's house with the chest.
GM says, "Garomach heads for his villa and holes up for the day to rest and recuperate from his hangover"
Caralchis is currently resting in bed, but he's awake
John says, "BRB I have to look up something online and aol wont keep open 2 browsers...sorry"
John has disconnected.
Corin raps on the door of Caralchis' house.
Corin says, "Hello? Caralchis? you in there?" he calls out."
Caralchis says, "Yes, I'm here, though in some pain""
GM [to Joseph]: you head up to St. Vincent's and Theudar is working in the fields
Caralchis stands and comes to the door
Corin says, "You look like hell.""
Corin says, "You'd better get back to bed.""
Corin says, "But take a look what was in this chest.""
Caralchis peers at the chest, and his eyes widen
Corin enters Caralchis' house before opening the chest.
Corin says, "How much ya think is in here?""
Caralchis says, "Quite a lot of gold is in that chest!"
Corin says, "Can we keep it?"
Caralchis says, "it belongs by right to Faiseric"
Corin says, "How do you figure that? That old witch had it!"
The housekeeper arrives to cart John off to bed.
Caralchis says, "we were under his command when we captured it"
Corin says, "I'm thinkin' we all split it up fairly, and if you want to give yours to Faiseric, be my guest.""
Caralchis says, "It is rightfully Faiseric's, if he chooses to split it between our party, as he should, it is his decision"
Corin says, "Like Faiseric needs it too! He's loaded, the old coot!""
Bodoni (Bodoni Lord F "I think we should give it to Bodoni. He was hurt the worst." ;D)
Caralchis says, "I think you need to learn some respect, boy"
GM says, "you gonna teach him some, caralchis? :)"
Corin says, "Ok, lets take it to the others and see what they all say. We can all decide.""
Caralchis says, "maybe when I'm feeling better! :D"
Corin wonders whether he should kill all claims to the money :P
Corin runs around and murders the wounded while they sleep.
Corin says, "j/k"
Bodoni (LOL!!!)
GM says, "more for you, right corin?"
Corin says, "yep!"
Corin says, "You rest Caralchis, I'll see what the others say."
Corin stays for a few minutes more, then heads for Bodoni's shack.
Caralchis says, "I really could use some rest, just remember whose money it is by right"
Caralchis waits for Corin to leave, then returns to his bed to rest
Corin calls back as he leaves, "yeah, yeah, I know"
GM says, "corin next goes to renard and john's pig farm"
John has arrived.
John says, "back"
Corin wades thru the pig mud and knocks on the farm door.
GM [to John]: corin is knocking on your door
John says, "Come in!"
Corin yells out, "hey Renard!! John!! You awake?"
Corin says, "ah there you are."
Corin pushes open the door and enters.
Corin says, "You hurt too?""
John says, "I've been better."
Corin says, "well, maybe this will cheer you up."
John says, "I'll be OK. Me and my brother are tough."
Corin opens the chest and shows them the money inside.
GM says, "neither of them is looking too good"
John says, "Wow. What's that?"
GM says, "[Renard] God has looked kindly upon us! Faiseric gave us that?"
Corin says, "I think Caralchis says we should split it up. It was the old woman's money.""
Corin says, "but Caralchis is hurt too, he was hard to understand."
John says, "We'll have no part of that filthy money!"
Corin says, "you dont want any of it?"
GM says, "[Renard] any of the witch's possessions are tainted!"
Corin looks to Renard too.
Bodoni (What? Renard doesn't scream bloody murder about it being cursed witch gold? ;D)
Bodoni (LOL!)
GM [to Bodoni]: well, he wasn't thinking it was hers until corin mentioned it
Corin says, "maybe your right. I should bury it or burn it.""
Corin says, "I'll go ask the others."
Corin says, "You need anything?"
GM says, "[Renard] it must be buried far from town in a place where no one is likely to dig it up."
Corin says, "yeah ok, I think I know a place."
Corin thinks of his backyard.
Corin says, "If you dont need anything, I'll be off to see the others."
Corin says, "password"
Corin says, "can you change your password?"
GM says, "there we go... now she's toast... i shoulda thought of that earlier"
GM [to Corin]: i don't think so
Corin waits for the trigger.
GM says, "i'm waiting too"
GM frowns
Bodoni (You turned here INTO toast?! Man, you really are powerful.. ;D)
John laughs.
GM says, "so anyway.... corin, next up is Bodoni and Joseph's place... as you walk up, Joseph is just walking up to the house with an old monk in tow"
GM says, "you recognize him as Father Theudar, from the St. Vincent monastery"
Corin leaves and heads for Bodoni's. Seeing Joseph, he hails him.
Corin says, "Joseph!"
Joseph says, "hi Corin"
Bodoni from inside speaking to wife "No, it's near the bottom of the chest...it's a buckler, you can't miss it.."
GM says, "bodoni's eldest sons, Radegard and Garrett, are noisily hammering iron in the smithy"
Corin sees Father Theuder, and bows his head in respect. "Greetings, Father."
Joseph says, "Dad.. I'm home. We've got company."
GM says, "[Theudar] Bless you, my son."
Corin tucks the chest under his arm for now.
Bodoni says, "Joseph? Well bring them in, lad, bring them in."
Corin says, "well Joseph, it looks like only you and I are unhurt!"
Joseph says, "hey Corin, Isn't that the chest you took from the Witch's lair?"
Bodoni attempts to make himself look presentable
Corin says, "What brings you here, Father? Um, yeah, this is the chest....""
Corin says, "We'll talk about it later Joseph. More important, how is Bodoni?"
GM says, "[Theudar] Dorinia, it is good to see you. How fares your husband?"
Bodoni (Hehehe... better not let the Father see it... it'll dissapear pretty quick. ;D)
GM says, "Theudar goes over to take a look"
Wendy arrives.
GM says, "...at bodoni, not the chest,which he hasn't noticed"
Corin looks around the room for a suitable place for the chest that will be unseen.
Bodoni straigtens his shirt "You must excuse my appearance, good father..I am not in the best of shape these days."
Corin places it behind a chair out of view.
Corin then joins the others near Bodoni.
GM says, "[Theudar, after some examination] You were fortunate in some ways. Your neck is badly torn, but no major blood vessels were damaged and it should heal. You'll have some scarring, though. I'm more concerned, though, about these other wounds."
Corin whispers to Joseph, "is he gonna make it?"
Bodoni (You forgot to trap the chest Corin.. Geeze.. ;D)
GM says, "[Theudar] Both this stab wound in your leg and this slash across your ribs are angry-looking and raw."
Corin says, "((woo woo!)"
Bodoni says, "Aye. I had noticed this. I had feared the worst. In my younger days I did see many a comrade fall to such wounds."
Joseph says, "Father, can you do anything to help him?"
GM says, "[Theudar] They are not deep, but I must treat them so that they do not worsten."
GM says, "He takes out some herbs, asks Dorinia to make an infusion and soak a cloth in it"
Corin says, "((James has her number now))"
Bodoni says, "Do what thine wilt, Father. If it be God's will to see me through this, so be it."
GM [to Corin]: i'm doing it manually, though - damn trigger isn't working
GM says, "[Theudar] Indeed. You are a good man, Bodoni, but God's will is not for us to understand."
Corin says, "I'm sure with Dorinia's good cooking, you'll be up and at 'em in no time!"
GM says, "Theudar speaks a few sentences in Latin which Joseph recognizes as a blessing. He makes the sign of the cross."
GM says, "[Theudar] There is no more I can do now. I will visit you often in the next few days."
Bodoni says, "Thank you, good Father."
GM says, "[Theudar] Try to sleep now. Joseph, I need a word with you outside."
Bodoni smiles faintly at Corin's exuberant behavior, and attempts to lie back
Corin waits for Theudar to leave with Joseph, then hurries over to the chest while he is alone with Bodoni.
Corin says, "hey Bodoni, take a gander at this."
GM says, "Theudar takes Joseph over to speak with him and his brothers."
Corin opens the chest for Bodoni to see.
Bodoni says, "Eh? What's that?"
Bodoni eyes widen
Corin says, "its money! from Malthildritch or whatever her name was."
Bodoni says, "That's an awful lot of money, lad."
Bodoni says, "The witch Joseph spoke of? Lad, it's not the best thing to have that sort of thing about."
Corin nods. "Think we should split it up? Renard and John dont want any.
GM says, "[Theudar] Your father is awake now, but his wounds will get worse before they get better. I expect him to fall quite ill soon and he may start raving. It is up to the Lord whether he will make it through."
GM says, "i like Corin's selective honesty :)"
Corin says, "heh"
Joseph says, "what should we do, Father?"
Bodoni says, "I don't think I should want any part of a magicker's money. Nor do I think Lord Faiseric would want it."
Corin says, "well, I was thinkin' of burying it where no-one would be hurt by it."
Bodoni says, "IF ye want it, thou art welcome to it, but it fills me with some dread. Nay, I shall decline your offer, lad."
Corin says, "And you speak for joseph also?"
John says, "Corin's probably in total disbelief at this point."
Bodoni says, "Do what ye thinkis best, lad."
GM says, "[Theudar] Keep him quiet. Make sure his bandages stay clean, and clean the wounds each day. I will be here once in the morning before we start working and once in the evening before vespers until he improves."
Bodoni Gives him an odd look "Yes, I do. I am the head of my family."
Corin says, "ok, I will do what is best. "
Corin quickly walks outside and hides the chest in some bushes.
Corin makes sure no-one sees him.
Corin then re-enters the house.
GM [to Corin]: there are some women walking around, but most of the men are out in the fields working
GM says, "let's fast-forward a bit"
GM says, "to the evening"
Bodoni (Yes, by all means..let's move ahead to Bodoni's funeral. ;D)
Corin says, "rofl"
GM laughs
Corin returns home with the chest and buries it to see if Faiseric claims it.
GM says, "Garomach comes around and speaks to each of you separately that evening, but i'll work it as a group conversation for simplicity"
GM says, "Corin, you find a spot to bury it, where you think it's unseen by any but your mother"
GM says, "[Garomach] You have done well. Faiseric spoke highly of you all."
Bodoni (Corin stand out in the middle of deserted field, and whispers "Lord Faiseric? Do you want this gold? NO? Okay...!" ::makes off back to home with Chest, cackling wildly:: ;D)
Corin says, "(lol Bodoni)"
John says, "Johan tells Faiseric how Renard fought bravely (even though he didn't see it)"
Bodoni says, "Thou art kind, Milord."
Corin says, "It is too bad about his daughter, though."
GM says, "brb"
Bodoni shakes his head sadly "Aye, tis a great pity.
GM says, "[Garomach] Indeed, he seemed quite distraught. He sent a fast rider off north early this morning."
GM says, "[Garomach] I overheard something about King Clovis, in fact, but I can't imagine how that's related."
Corin says, "What was the rider for?"
GM says, "(yeah! trigger finally works!)"
Caralchis cheers
GM says, "[Garomach] A messenger, I suppose."
Corin [to King]: Clovis? I wonder what that is all about.
Corin says, "(oops)"
GM says, "[Garomach] If the messenger is going to the King, it'll be at least a few days before he gets back."
Bodoni Begins to get an odd feeling about these events unfolding
Corin says, "It looks like the cattle going missing will stop anyway."
GM says, "[Garomach] That assumes the King is at his palace in Lutetia. If he's in Trier, it will be longer."
GM says, "[Garomach] We all hope so, young man. Unfortunately, we also know that several of the cattle thieves are still unaccounted for."
GM says, "[Garomach] Incidentally, their leader, Treverus, died last night."
Corin says, "but their reason to steal is surely gone? The witch is dead!"
Bodoni says, "I suspect that with the witch gone, the thievery in this instance will dwindle away"
Corin nods.
GM says, "[Garomach] That is true. I hope that was their only motive, but of course we don't know that it was."
Bodoni reguarding Treverus "I cannot say I am sorry to hear that.
GM says, "[Garomach] Faiseric spoke especially highly of you, Bodoni, and your bravery in being first up the embankment."
Bodoni says, "I did what any soldier would have done for any Lord, milord."
GM says, "[Garomach] He mentioned that he should be coming to Praesus within the next few days to speak with everyone. I hope you are all on your feet by then, but by the looks of you I'd say that's not too likely."
Bodoni (I got cut to ribbons, and let the fat nobel stay safely at the rear. ;D)
GM says, "(ooc: she's a persistent one, ain't she?)"
Corin says, "what happened to Godefriedel?"
GM [to Corin]: you're asking Garomach?
Bodoni says, "Aye, we lost sight of him in the chaos.."
Corin says, "yes"
GM says, "[Garomach] Godefridel? The merchant? Faiseric mentioned that he was missing, but nothing else. I have heard nothing."
Corin says, "seems curious. He was always holding back during the confrontation. I wonder....""
Bodoni says, "He was only a merchant. Not a soldier. It's nothing odd, lad."
GM says, "[Garomach] Both Faiseric and I assumed the wolves got him. What makes you think otherwise?"
GM says, "[Garomach] Or perhaps that he grew frightened and ran away in the dark and got lost."
Bodoni chuckles "I think the last few days have made the lad overly suspicious, milord."
Corin says, "The wolves were either dead or being fought by the time he got up the cliff. Running away is more likely. Or another motive?"
GM [to Corin]: that's not true. he came up the cliff with the rest of you and was helping joseph treat bodoni
GM [to Corin]: that was the last you saw of him. after you all went over to the keep you lost track of him
Corin says, "(ok but that was my inderstanding of his movements :P)"
GM says, "[Garomach, chuckling] Well, lad, I was not there, unfortunately, so I cannot say."
Corin nods thoughtfully.
Corin says, "Did Lord Faiseric mention anything else?"
Bodoni (Corin eyes chest greedily ;D)
GM says, "[Garomach] Don't interrogate me, boy!"
Corin says, "sorry Milord""
Corin bows his head and blushes.
GM says, "[Garomach] I have had a long day and I'm sure you all wish a full night's sleep, so I will bid you good night now."
GM says, "and he goes away"
Corin asks his mother what he should do with the chest.
GM says, "now several days pass fairly uneventfully"
GM says, "i'm going to make a few healing rolls"
Bodoni (GM: During which, Bodoni dies horribly! :D)
GM [to Bodoni]: it's possible, let's find out! :)
Bodoni (Open mouth insert foot... Doh! ;D)
John eats heartily.
GM says, "after Garomach leaves on that first evening, Bodoni does indeed grow hot to the touch and sweats profusely."
Bodoni (Hehehe... uh-oh.. ;P)
Corin says, "(its that nightie Dorinia is wearing.)"
GM says, "he falls into delirium, drifing in and out of sleep and babbling about old battles and fellow soldiers from years past"
Joseph has disconnected.
Joseph has connected.
Bodoni (Guess Joseph couldn't stand to watch his old man, suffer, eh? ;))
GM says, "did you miss anything, joseph?"
Joseph has disconnected.
GM says, "Father Theudar visits Bodoni and shakes his head, performing more blessings and rituals"
Bodoni (Father: "What HE needs is a good bleeding! :D)
Joseph has connected.
GM says, "after two days of delirium, finally the fever breaks and Bodoni falls into a more natural sleep"
GM says, "Theudar seems pleased."
GM says, "[Theudar] He is very strong for a man his age."
Joseph says, "Thank you for all you have done for us."
GM says, "you get a full week of healing before anything further happens, so let me see where you are at that point"
Bodoni (Cool :D)
GM [to Bodoni]: even when just rolling FOR you, the dice are evil
Bodoni (Well... it's me.. ;D)
GM says, "ok, the week is up with no one dying or anything"
GM says, "Renard seems amazingly hearty and is fully recovered at the end of the week. the wounds are scarred but don't give him any trouble"
GM says, "Faiseric comes into town at the end of the week"
GM says, "he rides first Garomach's villa and spends several hours there"
Corin waits nervously at his house when he hears of Faiseric being in town.
GM says, "he finishes up there are heads over to visit Bodoni"
GM says, "are = and"
GM says, "[Faiseric] Bodoni, i was impressed by your bravery. Climbing up that cliff gave the rest of us a taste of what we would be facing. It was foolish, but as brave as if you were a Frank."
Bodoni says, "Please excuse my appearance, milord. The good Father says I am recovering nicely, though."
Bodoni (said before)
GM says, "[Faiseric] Your appearance is suitable for a warrior after a battle!"
Bodoni refering to actions "T'was nothing, milord."
GM says, "[Faiseric] I wish to present you with this armor as a token of my appreciation for your actions. Wear it with pride and continue to fight bravely!"
Bodoni says, "Thou art most generous, milord. I wilt wear it with honor and pride."
Bodoni humble
Bodoni (cool, free stuff.. ;D)
GM says, "He motions to a servant who brings in the armor. It's segmented Roman legionaire stuff, very nice."
Bodoni (Oooooooo! Cool. ;D)
GM says, "[Faiseric] Perhaps this will keep you more intact next time."
Bodoni Accepts his gracious gift
Bodoni says, "I sure it wilt, milord."
John says, "sorry guys.... 11am, I've got to jump"
John smiles.
GM [to John]: ttyl
John waves.
John has disconnected.
GM says, "we're going to stop very soon anyway"
GM says, "[Faiseric] i must return to Benecortum now"
Bodoni says, "Aye milord. May ye journey be a safe one."
GM says, "*** END SESSION ***"
