Session Log 7/30/2000 Log
-- Start log: Sunday, July 30, 2000 9:09:25 am LunaSoft MOO time --
GM says, "you did a nice job with the boar-hunting expedition"
Joseph says, "Renard is a good tracker"
GM says, "it's a struggle to get it back to camp, and with all your running a few of you are thoroughly lost"
GM says, "but Renard gets you back safe and sound"
Renard puffs oh-so-slightly with pride
Corin thanks Renard. "At least one of knew the way back."
Corin says, "(insert us)"
Bodoni (Hrm...it's raining over here.. I don't hear any lightning yet, though. That's something).
GM says, "when you return to camp, Garomach, Johan and Caralchis have built a fire and are sitting around it talking and laughing"
GM says, "and Bodoni (sorry)"
Corin says, "Look what we caught!""
Corin attempts to remove two arrows from the boar to re-use them.
GM says, "[Garomach] Well done! That's much more than I expected you'd find."
Renard says, "Johan, set up a spit!"
Corin says, "We should cut it up in smaller parts, it'll take too long to cook else, no?""
GM [to Corin]: you retrieve your arrows with no difficulty... you also find the one that missed, the arrowhead is fine, although the fletching needs work
Bodoni Eyes the boar, and salivates heavily "Ahh..roasted boar. Gentlemen, we eat well tonight!"
Renard says, "My brother's a great cook - he'll know what to do"
Corin says, "to gm (can i repair my own arrows?)"
GM says, "[Garomach] Very well, Johan is in charge of the cooking"
GM says, "Johan explains in words of one syllable about the various parts of a pig and what tastes best"
Bodoni As visions of roasted boar dancing in his head, his stomach begins to growl a little
GM says, "[Johan] we should smoke some of it so it will last longer"
Renard says, "so let's get it done!"
Bodoni nods agreeably "Aye, aye! I fine idea, Johan."
GM says, "Garomach considers this and decides that it's a good tradeoff, so you spend the next day smoking meat... you get about 100 pounds of usable smoked meat as a result"
Corin sits down near the fire and rests after all the running, attempting to repair the fletching on one of his arrows.
GM says, "Johan's cooking isn't quite as good as renard asserted, but it's edible"
Renard [to GM]: Bodoni and Caralchis get a nice day's rest to boot...
GM says, "indeed. they seem to be healing nicely, too."
Corin says, "Hopefully we can store the meat in the (what is it called again?)"
GM says, "carruca :)"
Corin says, "(thats it :) )"
Renard makes admiring noises while eating, looks around: "Best damn boar you ever had, eh fellows? Heaven knows our pigs back home are some scrawny pigs..."
GM says, "there's room in the carruca, but only if you store it where Caralchis was lying"
Corin says, "Caralchis can lie across it?"
GM says, "otherwise you can divvy it up between you and carry it, 20 pounds to a person"
Renard says, "How are you two feeling, Bodoni, Caralchis?"
Corin says, "strap it across the back of the horse?"
GM says, "[Caralchis] i am feeling better every day"
GM says, "it's not a great idea to weigh down a horse that is already pulling a heavy carruca... Garomach nixes this ide"
GM says, "ide = idea"
Bodoni muches like a madman on the meat, barely has the ability to answer "Ah, good, good.. I am much more agreeable...I'm feeling better all the time."
Joseph says, "how much do we eat per day?"
Renard says, "so let's just carry it until these guys think they can walk on their own..."
Bodoni offers quickly "I'll be more than able to carry my share."
GM [to Joseph]: i'm not calculating exactly, but a pound would be alot i think... 100 pounds should last 7 people at least 2 weeks or more
Bodoni thinks about snacking on the road, and gets a satisfied grin
GM says, "ok, you divvy it up among you, bodoni getting a little more than average, and set off on the third day of your journey"
Corin hefts his share onto his back. "It'll slow me down some, but it'll work."
Bodoni eating a predigious amount of boar this night. SO much so, that it would be somewhat noticable by the others
GM says, "Caralchis rides in the carruca once again"
Renard looks admiringly at Bodoni, and nudges Johan, smiling.
Corin says, "seems bodoni got his appetite back. Eating like a horse!""
GM says, "the weather for the next two days continues to be beautiful... blue skies, fluffy white clouds, and warm, dry air"
Bodoni Spends some of the second night recovering from the previous night's indulgences
GM says, "it's just about perfect for traveling, and you have full bellies the whole time... it seems to you that traveling must be about the best thing you can do, much better than pulling weeds and trudging through fields"
Corin says, "This aint so bad, better than farming!""
GM says, "you make good time, not worrying about catching game but just picking wild vegetables and fruits as you pass and eating the smoked boar meat, as you climb slowly into the mountains"
GM says, "these mountains are not high enough to have snow year-round, but it is somewhat colder in the pass and you have to break out the heavy blankets at night"
Bodoni a sliver of boar's meat between my teeth. Sort of nawing on it as we march
Corin remembers his armor being made back at Praesus, and hopes it ready when he returns.
GM says, "you do pass a few travelers, but only a very few... most are in small groups and stick to themselves as you pass each other, hailing a greeting but not stopping to chat"
Bodoni (nawing=gnawing)
Corin hopes his mother is doing ok too.
GM says, "late on the fourth day, when you've been in the mountains for a while and are getting to enjoy the cold clear air, you come across a man crawling along the side of the road"
GM says, "Garomach was just saying that it's about time to make camp for the day"
Corin says, "What is wrong with that man?""
Bodoni says, "Mi'lord. A hurt man, it would seem."
Bodoni Moves forward to look him over, carefully, though
GM says, "[Garomach] Ho, fellow! Why do you crawl on your belly like a snake?"
Corin says, "Careful, he may have the sickness.""
GM says, "hearing the hoofbeats and creaking wheels of your approach, the man in the grass rolls over"
Bodoni says, "What is you're tribulation good fellow?"
Bodoni Still keeping a safe distance
Bodoni (you're=your)
GM says, "he is dressed in a loincloth only and hasn't washed in a while"
Corin says, "(does he appear injured?)"
GM says, "he is dragging his right leg and when you ask him what's wrong, he points to it and grimaces"
Bodoni Guesses "A slave perhaps?"
GM says, "he shakes his head so violently at that that you fear it might twist right off"
Bodoni moves closer toward the man, ans eyes the man's leg where indicated
Corin says, "Can you speak, man?"
Corin says, "Or have you lost your tongue?""
GM says, "he opens his mouth briefly but gets a determined look on his face and spreads his hands"
Corin says, "(has his tongue been cut off?)"
GM says, "nope, he's got a tongue"
GM says, "any of you have gesture skill?"
Renard shakes his head sadly - "Give the man some food, at least!"
Bodoni looking for damage to that lag "perhaps he's a monk of some sort."
Bodoni shrugs "I know not."
Bodoni (lag=leg)
GM says, "looking at bodoni, he nods and smiles"
Bodoni says, "Ah! I see our new found friend is indeed on the holy persuasion"
Bodoni (on=of)
Corin says, "Have you made an oath not to talk?"
GM says, "he nods again"
Corin says, "ah, I see :)"
Corin says, "You were attacked, or just had an accident?"
Corin says, "attacked?"
GM says, "he considers a moment, then makes an odd gesture with his hands"
Bodoni ?GM is the man's leg damaged where indicated?
GM [to Bodoni]: yeah, it looks like it might be broken
Corin says, "(Do any of us understand the gesture?)"
Renard and Johan go get the fellow, to lift and bring him to the camping area (if he will allow). Joseph can try to bind his leg.
GM [to Corin]: no, it doesn't remind you of anything
Bodoni says, "This man's leg look broken. Does anyone here know hoe to set it? I suggest we make something to keep it stable."
Corin says, "Well, I will make a fire and set camp. Some food will surely help our guest."
Bodoni (Dammit! Thunder. :P Damn, damn, damn, damn!!)
Corin heads over to a suitable spot and prepares to camp.
Corin says, "(Thunder bad?)"
GM says, "he smiles gratefully at your attention"
Bodoni (Not yet... just a rumble. Maybe it'll stay that way..)
GM says, "and makes the sign of the cross repeatedly over you as you carry him"
GM [to Bodoni]: you've got to buy a surge protector for your phone line
Bodoni (I know... ;D Haven't had the opportunity.)
Corin says, "(Not sure if a $20 surge protector will help against a direct lightning hit, but oh well.)"
GM says, "you make the usual camp, building a big fire to ward off the late afternoon chill and spreading your blankets out"
GM says, "the horse goes off to graze"
Corin gets a somewhat straight stick and attempts to brace the man's leg with it.
Corin uses strips of cloth to tie the stick to his leg.
Joseph says, "(to stranger) are you from around here?"
GM says, "he nods @ joseph's question"
Corin says, "Maybe Caralchis can walk, and this man ride with us?"
Corin gives the man some of the meat in his pack.
GM says, "he shakes his head in protest"
Corin says, "No meat?"
Renard says, "I'll help you bind his leg, Joseph, though since you're from the monastary I bet you know a lot more."
GM says, "both to the meat, and to corin's suggestion of riding with you :)"
Corin says, "You must eat friend, your body needs food."
Bodoni finds his refusal of meat odd, having never meet someone that didn't eat meat
GM says, "make First Aid rolls, Renard and Joseph"
Renard rolls 3 + 0.
Result [6 4 3] = 13 + 0 = 13.
Corin hands the man some left over fruit and vegetables.
Joseph rolls 3 + 0.
Result [1 5 1] = 7 + 0 = 7.
Bodoni offers him some of the fruit, and vegtables he saved
GM says, "he does gratefully accept some water and eats a couple of turnips and potatoes"
Corin says, "(nice Joseph!)"
Renard clumsily twists and turns the man's broken leg --
Renard winces - I prefer my turnips cooked...
Bodoni (Killing the man instantly? :D)
GM says, "Renard does a less than fabulous job, but between the two of them they manage to get the leg splinted"
GM says, "he grimaces in obvious pain several times but never says a peep"
Joseph says, "(to stranger) you need to rest. Can we help you get home tomorrow?"
GM says, "he nods at that idea and smiles"
Corin says, "Is your place more than two days walk from here?"
Joseph gives the man a blanket
GM says, "Garomach grumbles something about insane Catholics but appears willing to help the poor sod"
Renard makes up his bedroll at the outside edge of camp. You've learned that he complains about "being too hot to sleep" if he's too close to the fire, but he definitely overcompensates and sleeps almost in the darkness.
GM says, "he shakes his head, pointing deeper into the mountains"
GM says, "(this to corin's question)"
Corin says, "Is it closeby?"
GM says, "he see-saws his hand from side to side"
Corin makes a line in the sand. "That is one days travel. How many of those?"
Bodoni Frowns at the motions in concetration, but having no clue as to what they mean
GM says, "using his finger he starts tracing patterns in the dirt"
Corin sighs heavily. "No, not a map. How many days travel is it to your place?"
Joseph serches through his pack and hands the man a wax writing tablet
Renard get impatient, watching Bodoni and Corin trying to decipher the monk's intentions, but leaves them to it
GM says, "he grins happily, takes the tablet and starts writing on it"
Bodoni to Joseph "Good thinking, lad!"
GM says, "joseph reads what he writes to the rest of you, who would take too long"
GM says, "[written] bless you all for helping me."
GM says, "[written] i am an ascetic monk and was out looking for herbs when i fell and hurt my leg. we live in caves only a few hours' walk into the mountains from here."
Joseph says, "It's the least we could do. We'll get you home tomorrow."
Renard walks back over from his bedroll, curious...
Corin ponders the idea of living in caves.
Bodoni nods "Aye, you get some rest tonight, and we'll start out in the morning. If it pleases ye, mi'lord?"
Bodoni looks to Garomach
GM says, "joseph hands the man a small lambskin packet, and he reads it and nods and grins in appreciation and starts to write furiously"
GM says, "[written] Aphasius will be most interested to meet you"
Joseph says, "he is your leader?"
GM says, "[Garomach] Aphasius? he is your abbot?"
Joseph says, "that's the word I was looking for (grin)"
GM says, "[written] yes. and I am Verdanus."
Corin says, "well met Verdanus. I am Corin."
Corin says, "introduces the others by name."
Bodoni Nods "Pleased to know you."
Renard says, "You know, we could use a blessing for our mission, Lord Garomach. We should all attend to this in the morning."
GM says, "[V - written] i must tend to my prayers now. as the Samaritan in scripture, so will you all be blessed."
Bodoni nods
Joseph smiles at Verdanus, takes back the lambskin packet "we'll leave you be for a while
Bodoni leaves the man to his prayers
Renard -- to bed!
Corin also goes to bed after eating his fill.
GM says, "Verdanus closes his eyes and soundlessly moves his lips as he prays"
Bodoni Bodoni again eats far too much, and goes to bed
GM says, "you all eat and go to sleep, rising as the rosy fingers of dawn stretch into the purple sky"
GM says, "(wait, that's a Greek metaphor... sorry :)"
Corin says, "Bodoni sure likes to eat!""
Bodoni (Probably why he has developed something of a paunch over the years. ;D)
GM says, "when you go over to check on Verdanus, he is praying again, making you wonder if he just stayed up all night at his devotions"
Corin breaks down the camp, ready for their trip to the caves.
Corin says, "Verdanus, are you ready?"
GM says, "however, his snoring competed even with Johan's, so you know that he didn't"
Bodoni whispers "He still prays? Should we alet him?"
Bodoni (before)
Bodoni (alet=alert)
GM says, "by the time you are ready and have packed everything up, he is done praying"
Corin says, "Should he ride in the cart or should Caralchis?"
Corin says, "Caralchis can walk a few hours...may do him good."
GM says, "he points uphill across a meadow, but there are trees a few hundred yards away"
Joseph helps Verdanus into the wagon
Corin says, "Can the carruca get to the caves, Verdanus?"
GM says, "you suspect the carruca won't make it all the way, as the mountains are pretty rugged, but at least you should get it off the main road"
Bodoni helps Verdanus into wagon
Corin says, "(ok)"
GM says, "Verdanus looks at Corin skeptically"
Corin says, "We'll take it as far as we can."
Corin looks at Lord Garomach. "You are ok with this, mi'lord?"
Bodoni ?GM, can I put on my armor before we head into the caves?
GM says, "[Garomach, gruffly] Indeed, indeed. We cannot leave him here to die, and I would not risk the Church's wrath in any event."
Corin says, "Expecting trouble, Bodoni?"
Bodoni (That's OOC, Corin. :D)
Corin says, "heh"
Bodoni (Dunno. about that. maybe. Jus' being cautious.)
GM [to Bodoni]: sure, you can if you like. takes 5-10 minutes
GM says, "bodoni's learned caution recently :)"
Bodoni (Okay, will do that before we head in all the way to Monk's caves)
Corin says, "(so I ask the question IC when I see that)"
Bodoni looks at Corin, but doesn't answer directly "Sometimes caution can be a warrior's best weapon. Only a fool or a barbarian charges in heedless."
GM says, "the horse strains to get the carruca through the wet grass up the hill towards where Verdanus points"
Corin remembers the cliff and the wolf, and tries not to smile.
GM says, "you travel down some rough trails through thickets of trees, still carruca-navigable, for about an hour"
GM says, "before you reach a point where you must climb a sort of staircase cut into a rock incline"
GM says, "the carruca can't possibly make it up there"
GM says, "brb"
Corin will be right back.
Corin says, "food run"
Bodoni Hm...food.. brb
Bodoni bak.. oh well...must get food later.
GM says, "i was just making a new CD run myself"
Bodoni sighs
Renard says, "Johan can carry Verdanus on his back up the stairs."
Corin says, "b"
GM says, "[Garomach] i suppose we must leave the carruca here... Caralchis, you stay with it, rest, and stand guard. if there is trouble, use your best judgment."
Corin helps Johan carry Verdanus up the stairs.
GM says, "Verdanus is a pretty scrawny fellow and Johan carries him up the stairs"
Bodoni keeps watch
Joseph goes with them
GM says, "you walk for another couple of hours, going mostly uphill and following Verdanus' directions"
Corin looks around as they follow the directions, keeping a keen eye out.
Bodoni walking near Johan
GM says, "until you walk out of a particular copse of trees and stand next to a massive cliff wall"
Corin says, "(not again!)"
GM says, "it's not quite vertical, but it is much too steep to climb and is made of loose shale... it could be 1000 feet high as far as you can tell"
Bodoni looks at the cliff wall, and mutters something
Corin peers up the cliff face. "what now?"
GM says, "Bodoni's new quirk: 'dislikes cliffs'... that would takes some explaining for a new character"
GM says, "Verdanus points out a narrow pathway up the cliff"
Joseph hands Verdanus the wax tablet. "now what do we do?"
Bodoni (Damn, that's a good quirk.. I've got a free slot or two, I think. :D)
Corin . o O ( you can walk the path with Verdanus on you, Johan? )
Corin . o O ( you can walk the path with Verdanus on you, Johan? )
GM says, "which was evidently formed by some sort of geological angled upthrusting eons ago... one of the strata projects out slightly and can be negotiated on foot"
Corin says, "(wow think does that!)"
Bodoni (Wow, that's just what Bodoni was thinking, GM. ;D)
GM says, "[Johan] he's getting heavy, i've been carrying him for two hours!"
Bodoni Offers "Here, give him to me."
Corin says, "sure bodoni? I could probably carry him.""
Bodoni shakes his head at Johan
Bodoni says, "Nay, lad... I can manage more than well enough."
GM says, "you switch places with Johan and start to head up the path"
Bodoni (WOLF! Crunch! :P)
GM says, "let's get DX rolls from each of you, or Climbing if that's a better roll"
Corin rolls 3 + 0.
Result [6 4 2] = 12 + 0 = 12.
Bodoni rolls 3 + 0.
Result [5 4 1] = 10 + 0 = 10.
Joseph rolls 3 + 0.
Result [5 4 3] = 12 + 0 = 12.
Bodoni (Dex is better. at 12.. made by 2)
Renard rolls 3 + 0.
Result [2 6 2] = 10 + 0 = 10.
Bodoni (Quick! Someone kick the 'random' number generator! ;D)
GM says, "Joseph, you slip a few more times than the others, but make it ok"
Corin says, "(just testing a formula)"
Corin says, "roll 12-3d6"
Corin says, "cant do it"
GM says, "however, johan's big feet seem to get in his way and he stumbles while quite a ways above the ground"
GM says, "no one here is afraid of heights, right?"
GM [to Corin]: it'd be 'roll 12-3d6 with dice', but anyway it won't recognize that
Bodoni (Nope. though I dislike cliffs.. ;P :D)
Renard moves to help Johan
Corin says, "(nope)"
GM [to Corin]: you'd have to do 'roll 3d6-12 with dice' and then invert the result
GM says, "johan starts to fall! renard, DX roll to catch him"
Renard rolls 3 + 0.
Result [6 2 5] = 13 + 0 = 13.
GM says, "on johan's other side is joseph"
Bodoni whistles an old roman marching song, very low
Corin dives towards Johan trying to help him.
Joseph tries to catch Johan
Corin says, "(oh wel I tried)"
Bodoni (Great! Johan falls to his death. :P)
GM [to Corin]: no you don't. the path is only wide enough for one.
GM says, "DX roll, joseph"
Joseph rolls 3 + 0.
Result [4 4 3] = 11 + 0 = 11.
GM says, "renard, noticing johan slipping, catches his arm and the two of them teeter for a moment."
GM says, "then joseph, hearing them yelp in surprise, turns and pulls them back to firm footing"
GM says, "the remainder of the climb is made uneventfully"
Joseph says, "whew!"
Bodoni Gives a sigh of relief
GM says, "you climb up a good ways until the trees below look like small bushes, and reach a ledge"
Renard scowls at Johan, "Watch yourself, you big log-head!"
Bodoni scowls, and thinks
GM says, "in the cliff behind the ledge are a series of caves. several loinclothed men are walked about engaged in various activities"
Bodoni clamors up ledge, when safe to do so with Monk on back
Corin yells to the men ahead. "Greetings! Your friend Verdanus here is injured!"
Bodoni (HEY! I've got a 'monk' on my back...)
Corin says, "(lol)"
GM says, "some are tending a scraggly-looking garden, some are seated working with knives on pieces of wood"
GM says, "one sec"
GM laughs @ bodoni
GM says, "it's no problem getting onto the ledge... the path leads right out on to it"
GM says, "in response to corin's shout of greeting, a few of the monks look up and walk over"
GM says, "one in particular looks older than the others and more dignifed, although he is dressed as the others in a loincloth"
GM says, "he approaches and pressed his hands together in greeting, smiling"
GM says, "presses"
Corin says, "that must be Apshasius."
GM says, "the man nods at this"
Bodoni (JUST loin cloths? No tunics for the chest?)
GM [to Bodoni]: that's right
Bodoni (::snickers:: Scantily clad monks..heh.)
Corin says, "Asphasius, we found Verdanus here next to the road with a broken leg."
Bodoni (The ONE time we find scantily clad people, and they're a buncha monks! :P ;D)
svetla [Guest] has arrived.
Corin is glad when he is at eye level and not looking up at loin-clad monks.
GM says, "everyone say hello to my wife, who's just here to watch :)"
Corin says, "hello my wife :)"
Bodoni says, "Hello, GM's wife. :)"
Corin says, "we'll have to keep it clean now :)"
Joseph says, "greetings"
GM says, "Aphasius gestures to a few of the other monks, who carry Verdanus into one of the caves"
Corin sits and rests after the climb up the cliff.
GM says, "Aphasius smiles a lot and seems very appreciative"
Bodoni hunkers down a bit. somewhat fatigued after the climb, but attempt to display such behavior as mearly waiting for the others
GM says, "he gestures you into one of the caves"
Joseph follows
GM says, "[Garomach] let's see what he wants"
Bodoni (so when do we hit him up for the reward? ;D)
Corin looks around at the monks, wondering what they do up here without talking. Corin rises and follows them in.
Bodoni rises and follows the others
GM says, "inside the cave, which is lit at the moment only by sunlight filtering in from the open cave mouth, is a fireplace and several monks working with clay"
GM says, "you can see a few clay figures on a stone rack in the fireplace"
Renard coughs from the smoke, and rubs his eyes
Corin says, "(what are they clay figures of?)"
Corin looks closely at one.
GM says, "the figurines look like Christ statuettes, Virgin Marys, and the like"
Corin wonders if the statuettes are valuable.
GM says, "as you stand there looking, Aphasius then leads you to an area of the cave where there are several rough canvas sacks, full of wood carvings and more figurines"
Bodoni peers down at the sacks, somewhat anxious to get back to our assignment
GM says, "as you are looking over these sacks, Aphasius, directed perhaps by some temporal knowledge that you can't fathom, looks up, claps his hands three times, smiles at the group of you, and walks out of the cave."
GM says, "he is followed by the rest of the monks in the cave"
Corin looks at the others.
Corin says, "He is just leaving us here?"
GM says, "yup"
Corin is very curious, and looks within a sack.
Renard looks around nervously
GM says, "like i said, it's filled with wooden carvings and fired clay statuettes"
Bodoni looks around, curiously "This whole situations makes me a little suspicious."
Corin peers deeper into the cave to see if there is another way out.
GM says, "the statuettes are unpainted and unglazed, but quite intricately crafted. in the sacks they are protected by rolls of wool"
Bodoni says, "What do you suppose these monks want?"
Corin says, "relax, they had no weapons that I saw. They mean us no harm."
Corin says, "Perhaps these sacks are gifts?"
Joseph says, "I'm not sure. Maybe we should follow them?"
GM says, "the only possibly dangerous implements you saw were being used for tending the garden"
GM says, "well, and the knives being used for wood carving"
Bodoni says, "I can't say.. and I'd rather not move any of these sacks until I know for sure. Perhaps if we just made ourselves quietly scarce?"
GM says, "[Garomach] Who knows that they could be doing. They're monks, doesn't that make them crazy by definition?"
Corin takes a statuette and slips it into his pocket. "Well, I think he left us these things on purpose."
Renard says, " I think we are to take one each as a blessing...""
Renard picks out a nice one of Jesus.
Corin says, "(is there only one way out? Or can we walk further into the cave?)"
Bodoni takes a statue totally at random "If you say so, Renard.
Bodoni never having much use for religious icons
GM says, "the cave goes a bit further back, but there's no breeze so it doesn't seem to have another entrance"
Corin walks into the back of the cave to see what is back there.
GM says, "Johan follows Renards lead and picks the one next to his"
GM [to Corin]: farther back there are beds of very unpleasant material - clearly mostly human waste - on which are growing fields of mushrooms
Corin quickly returns to the others.
Renard yells at Corin, "get back here, you insolent boy! These are holy men!"
Corin says, "Didn't look too holy back there.""
Corin grabs a statuette for Caralchis. "lets get out of here."
Joseph says, "Don't you think we should follow the monks? They know the way out"
Bodoni slightly irritaed "Enough. we have delayed the mission long enough, and I'm sure mi'lord's patience wears thin. Let us be off."
Renard says, "We should go, Lord. I'll select you a Savior""
GM [to Joseph]: the monks just walked out of the cave mouth and turned the corner, that was all. following them and getting out of the cave are identical
Renard picks one like his
Renard crosses himself and thanks the abbott as they leave.
Corin says, "(we search all the sacks before leaving.)"
Bodoni (Make sure you clean that nose, Renard. ;D)
GM says, "[Garomach] i was hoping you might have some idea what they were doing, but if you don't, let's be getting back."
GM says, "as you leave the cave and walk past the next cave over, you see all the monks inside there kneeling down"
Renard stops Corin after he notices he's picking through the sacks
Renard gives him an extra-gruff look
Corin grins at Renard. "What? They left them for us!"
GM says, "the abbot kneels in front of them... all are clearly praying... you can count about 20 monks altogether"
Renard says, "that doesn't mean you have to take it all!"
Renard says, "I get the feeling blessings are wasted on you, anyhow!"
Corin is trying to figure all this out. Human waste, statues, monks....
GM says, "Aphasius is moving pebbles at his feet in some unfathomable pattern as he concentrates"
svetla [Guest] has disconnected.
The housekeeper arrives to remove svetla [Guest].
Renard says, "Begone, Lurker!"
Corin says, "I like the name tho, svetla"
Bodoni (what's it mean?)
Corin says, "sweet velvet :)"
Corin says, "j/k"
GM says, "means 'light' in Bulgarian"
Corin says, "close :)"
Bodoni (Awwwww....;D)
Joseph really wants to talk to the abbot, but thinks they will be occupied in prayer for quite some time.
svetla [Guest] has arrived.
Bodoni presses the others "Let us be off. We must go."
GM says, "[Garomach, whispering] i'm hungry, let's eat something before we head back"
Corin says, "(And then there was light.)"
Renard [to Joseph,]: "We can start down, if you'll follow after you have your words
Corin says, "There were some mushrooms back there."
GM says, "[Garomach, whispering] besides, that'll give us a chance to talk to the abbot again... joseph, get out your tablet and let's try to get some meaningful communication going here"
Bodoni sighs, but bends to mi'lord's demands
Renard says, "Corin, mushrooms grow in caves... they make nice soup. None of your business, though"
GM says, "you're spurning a meal, bodoni? :)"
Bodoni (Hey! We can eat while we walk ya know.. ;D)
Joseph says, "(to Garomach) mi'lord, do you wish me to interupt their prayers?"
GM says, "you all sit down on the ledge and get out your traveling rations and water skins"
Bodoni (No reason we can't overindulge and march at the same time. This place gives me the creeps. ;P)
Joseph says, "(to GM) re: the stones at the Abbot's feet, is he counting them off like decades on a rosery?"
GM says, "[Garomach] no no, not unless it takes them too long"
Bodoni muching away on the meat and dried cheese, hungrily
Bodoni (muching=munching)
GM [to Joseph]: rosaries haven't been invented yet, but yes
Corin says, "eats hungrily and looking at the statue in his hand."
Corin eats hungrily and looking at the statue in his hand.
GM says, "the view is tremendous"
GM says, "the ledge overlooks a vast valley and you can see, on the edge of your vision, the silver line of a river snaking through the green fields"
Bodoni tosses a stone idly over the ledge, down the cliff, and watches it fall
GM says, "[Garomach] see that river?"
Corin hopes it doesnt hit Caralchis.
Bodoni says, "Aye, mi'lord."
GM says, "[Garomach] that's the Sauna. it passes through Cavillonum, which we should reach by tomorrow, and flows all the way south to the Mare Mediterraneum"
Bodoni grins "Aye, mi'lord. It will be nice to pull into a town, and into civilization again."
Corin looks back at the Abbot to see if they are still praying.
GM says, "after you finish lunch, they are still at it, but Joseph looks at the stones at Aphasius' feet and remarks that they must be about done"
Corin picks the meat from his teeth with his knife as he waits.
GM [to Joseph]: maybe you should spend an XP on Cryptanalysis :)
GM says, "and he turns out to be right. as the monk moves the last pebble into the larger pile, all the monks raise their heads simultaneously."
Renard -- if they're nearing the end, Renard kneels down with his Christ to have a prayer as well
GM says, "one by one they approach a large cross mounted at the rear of the cave, kneel to it and cross themselves, then back out of the cave"
GM [to Renard]: ok, you join the last bit of their devotions
GM [to Renard]: they don't have a problem with that
GM says, "Aphasius is the last one to kneel in front of the cross and back out"
Corin says, "(they're looking for a virginal sacrifice anyway.)"
GM says, "and the monks return to their labors without a word"
Corin says, "You going to talk to Aphasius, Joe?"
Bodoni (Wow...what a fun buncha guys. :/)
GM says, "two of them carry the injured Verdanus out of the sacred cave and into one of the living caves"
Joseph when Apasius has a free moment, goes up to him
GM says, "Aphasius comes over to you when he is done with the praying"
Joseph says, "excuse me, Abbot, will Verdanus be alright? (hands him the wax tablet)"
GM says, "[A - written] thank you for your concern and for your return of Verdanus."
Joseph shows him the small lambskin packet
GM says, "[A - written] with the grace of god his injury will heal in time."
GM says, "[A - written] you know Father Theudar? fascinating. i worked with him years ago."
GM says, "[A - written] we fought Arianism together. he is well?"
Joseph says, "He is as lively as ever at St. Vincent's monestery."
GM says, "[A - written] i see you have each taken one of our figurines. you are welcome to them, but i have a special request for you."
GM says, "[A - written] we do not often get travelers here, as you might imagine."
Joseph says, "the journey was most difficult."
Bodoni (Abbot: :Whips out a guitar: "Will you jam with me?" ;D)
Bodoni (Ahhhhh!! It's deliverance all over again! Run for it, guys! ;D)
GM says, "[A - written] but our figurines do us little good up here. they are meant for a wider audience."
Bodoni (I KNEW IT! I knew he wanted us to destribute them.. I jus' though the idea had to much audacity! ;P ;D)
GM says, "[A - written] i still fight Arianism in my own way. the figurines are a part of that task."
Bodoni (Thought)
GM says, "[A - written] i would be most grateful if you would bring them to the people of Cavillonum. sell them, raise money with them. all i ask is that you donate 75% of the money raised to the Catholic church there."
GM says, "[A - written] it is a small church, struggling in the sea of Arianism that exists all around. the donation would help them greatly."
Corin says, "(well, we can agree to it, and just dump the sacks later *grin* )"
GM says, "we wife just mentioned that "
Renard [to Lord]: Garomach, "This plan will give us an additional cover for our mission"
Bodoni (LOL!)
GM says, "75% is a little anachronist... let's change that to '3 parts in 4', ok?"
GM says, "just to make her happy :)"
Bodoni (;D)
GM says, "[Garomach] *grumbling* It will delay us."
GM says, "[A - written] but you are merchants, are you not? you should make a tidy profit on this venture."
Joseph says, "(to A) we are traveling to Tolosa, do you have any advice for us 'in a sea of Arianism' as you say?"
Corin says, "(arianism - belief that jesus was not the son of God, but a man who was a prophet. Also did not believe in the Catholic trinity, true?)"
GM says, "i have not been to Tolosa in a long, long time. it is Visigothic, that much i know."
GM says, "(that's from Aphasius - written)"
GM says, "[A - written] the Burgundians remains staunchly Arian, but i am not sure about the Visigoths these days. we do not get much news up here."
GM says, "[A - written] did Clovis of the Franks not convert recently to the correct way?"
Corin wonders if there will be violence against those that oppose Arian in Tolose.
Joseph says, "I believe he did."
GM [to Corin]: Arianism is way too subtle for your character to understand the difference, but to Catholics Arianism is more evil than paganism... yes, it's a dispute about the nature of Christ
Renard says, "Well, I don't think it wise to refuse a holy geas"
GM says, "[A - written] the world is confusing these days."
Renard says, "Caralchis will have to walk, but perhaps he's well enough..."
GM says, "[Garomach] yes, we are merchants *through his teeth* very well, holy one, we will do this task"
Bodoni Moves into the cave to retrieve the sacks
Renard says, "Joseph, find out the best way to bring those figures down the cliff - we might easily drop them, and waste months of their work"
Joseph says, "thank you A- (asks about the transport of the figures)"
GM says, "there are four sacks. each one weighs about 50 pounds. the easiest way is just to carry them."
Corin hefts one over his shoulder. lets go then. Stay close so we can help each other.
Bodoni (I know a real fast way to get them down the cliff... though I dare say they'd not survive well intact.. ;D)
Corin says, "(We'd have 30 monk chasing us with gardening tools then.)"
GM says, "[A - written] this noon i have asked Christ and the Holy Virgin to look over you and protect you on your holy mission."
Bodoni hefts one bag over my shoulder, and begins to move carefully down the cliff trail, again muttering something about cliffs
Renard crosses himself before the cross, grabs a bag, and starts down, motioning to Johan to grab another
Corin says once he is out of earshot, "We gotta carry these sacks like this all the way to Tolosa??"
Joseph says, "thank you very much, we'll take good care of these, (pats bag). We must get going"
GM says, "[Garomach] no, boy, we'll put them in the carruca. and they're meant for Cavillonum, not Tolosa."
Bodoni puts my figurine back in the bag as an afterthought. Having no real use for it
Corin continues on carefully down the cliff.
GM says, "aphasius and the others wave to you, smiling happily, as you start trudging back down the cliff path"
GM says, "walking down is easier than up, and you have reached the point of tiredness where you are most careful."
GM says, "you get down without incident, and return to the carruca to find Caralchis in the carruca's driver seat"
Corin says, "Everything ok Caralchis?"
GM says, "[Caralchis] Hail, Garomach! Hail, fellow! Nothing happened here."
Corin tosses him a statuette. "That'll make you feel better."
Renard says, "Feel well enough to walk?"
Bodoni (With a knife in his bac---er nevermind.. ;D)
GM says, "[Caralchis] i can walk, certainly, although my neck still pains me somewhat"
GM says, "you explain to him about the sacks and what transpired during your day, and then you lead the carruca back to the road"
Corin walks alongside the carruca after tossing in his sack.
GM says, "[Garomach] well, that wasted a day, but maybe it will help us. i'd like to ask around in Cavillonum and talk to some people anyway. this will give us a good reason."
Bodoni takes off his armor and places back on the carruca before continuing onward
Renard says, "[in a Blues Brothers monotone] We're on a mission from god."
Corin says, "(and bodoni has at least 1/2 a tank of gas.)"
GM says, "[Garomach] but i swear to god that i will never understand the Catholic obsession with the Arians. what's the difference?"
Bodoni shrugs "I'm sure I don't know mi'lord."
GM says, "[Garomach] the Arians don't seem to mind the Catholics, do they?"
Corin shrugs. "Who cares, these statues will give us a good cover to travel under."
Renard [let's FF so we can squeeze in another encounter into this session
GM says, "this day is shot, so you make camp where you camped the previous night and head out again in the morning"
Bodoni keeps his one 'dull brown' eye out for trouble
GM says, "the bulk of the mountains are behind you now so much of the road leads downhill"
Corin keeps away from Bodoni's brown eye.
GM says, "as you come down from the uplands, you begin to pass fertile fields being worked by peasants"
Bodoni once again muching on a strip of smoked boar meat
Bodoni (eh? Corin?!)
GM says, "from time to time you pass other carrucae, less well appointed than yours, bringing goods in your direction or coming empty back"
Corin remembers the days of working the fields in Praesus.
Bodoni (I didn't pop it outta my socket for pity's sake.. I'm jus' using it to look around ;D)
GM says, "late in the day you reach the outskirts of Cavillonum"
Renard says, "Joseph, I suppose you'd know best how to dispose of these figures...?"
Corin says, "Finally! We're here!""
Joseph says, "(re: figures) I was thinking we might set up a little stand near the church"
GM says, "outside of the walls are the dwellings of the poorer townsfolk; inside are the trade areas and the better houses"
GM says, "Aphasius told you where to find the church in Cavillonum; it's outside the wall"
Corin says, "seems to me we'll get the most if we sell 'em in the trade areas."
Bodoni (So this is like the suburbs, right...not the city with it's shops and establishments proper, eh?)
GM says, "well, it's more like a third-world version of that, Bodoin: slums surrounding a downtown area"
Joseph says, "have to check with the proper athorities first, though"
Corin says, "(good stopping point?)"
Bodoni (Right.. jus' didn;t want to use the world slum.. ;D)
Joseph says, "in the church, I mean"
GM says, "yeah, i think this is a fine stopping point."
Bodoni (didn't want to use the word, slum.. Heh.. sheesh.. typo-demons. :D)
GM says, "*** END SESSION ***"
