Session Log 9/24/2000 Log
-- Start log: Sunday, September 24, 2000 9:07:58 am LunaSoft MOO time --
GM says, "*** START SESSION ***"
GM says, "so where we left off, you were about to head off with Portia to see Lugdunum"
GM says, "you were choosing your equipment... here's what i have from last time..."
GM says, "Corin: will bring along some statuettes and some simple clothes. His knife is at his side."
Corin says, "(wondering whether his bow may be appropriate slung across his back. After all, its not a blade.)"
GM says, "Joseph: gets a bag of figures from upstairs. he brings his sword along as well."
GM says, "Bodoni: brings a sack of statues. Brings his mace as well."
GM says, "Caralchis: he brings his knife, too"
GM says, "while cities may say they don't like blades, i think the implication is that they don't want weapons wielded within the city"
Corin says, "understood."
GM says, "basically, wearing a knife is ok, especially for a bodyguard, but going more heavily-armed is bound to get you harassed by city guards"
Corin says, "I'll stick with the original plan then."
Joseph , after talking to Caralchis, feels 'overdressed' wearing a sword and resolves to purchase a knife at the earliest convenience.
Bodoni being gruff, and generally 'old' elects to wear his mace anyway (City guards be damned! :D)
Corin tosses Joseph an old knife. "I have our friend the witch's knife, so you can have thius if you like,"
Corin says, "(actually not a "old" knife, but in rather decent shape.)"
GM says, "johan and renard bring no weapons, grumbling a bit though about how they got roughed up in Cavillonum"
Corin ((actually its considered a large knife for stats.)
GM says, "from in the hall, you hear Portia: 'are you ready yet? the market will be filling up!'"
Joseph says, "thanks Corin! "
Joseph runs upstairs to put sword away
Caralchis says, "I'm ready!"
Corin nods to Joseph and slips out to the hall where Portia is.
Bodoni rubs his hands together, and brings his money pouch "Ah, the rough edges of the big cities."
Bodoni Laughs heartily
GM says, "Portia: ok then! let's go. hey, what are those big sacks for?"
Bodoni explains and points to joseph "Aye, the laddie's idea."
Corin says, "((where can I download those data files for GCA that you personalized again?))"
Bodoni lets Joseph explain
Joseph takes a figure out of his sack. These are religious statues, would you like one?
Joseph says, "Portia, who did you say was the bishop of this town. I need to talk to him about selling these."
GM says, "[Portia] hmmmm... interesting. this woodwork is quite intricate!"
GM says, "[Portia] you can see the agony on the face of the martyred Daniel exquisitely... i'll buy a few, actually, for myself and my family"
Bodoni (We look like wierd, religious folks always trying to pass off these figures.. "Hello we'd like you to have this religious statue from the church of religious conciousness" Hehe.)
GM chuckles
GM says, "[Portia] (to Joseph) yes, i'd like to pay a visit to the bishop later on today."
GM says, "[Portia] why don't you just bring along a few samples of the work and leave those heavy sacks here, though? you don't want to be lugging those around all day... it's going to be a hot one."
Bodoni looks to Jospeh "Ye call, lad."
Joseph says, "I figured we needed to have the goods on hand to sell them."
Joseph says, "I think we should take them with us."
Bodoni sighs "Aye...I suppose ye are right, lad."
Bodoni says, "Well, let's get on with it then, ready lads?"
Corin is only a half dozen in a small bag.
Corin says, "((Carrying that is))"
GM says, "heh... i was wondering if that was some sort of postmodern self-description, corin"
Bodoni (LOL! Corin is only... Hehehe)
GM says, "ok, so there are three sacks of figurines, and each weighs about 45 pounds... who's carrying them?"
Corin says, "((heh))"
GM says, "johan refuses, remembering the LAST time he had to carry a bag of statues"
GM says, "but renard is willing to carry one"
Bodoni (I'll carry one.. Heh.. ;D)
Corin says, "One sack should be enough for today.""
Joseph hefts a sack over his shoulder
Corin walks outside before he can get burdened with one those silly sacks.
Caralchis would be willing to carry one if necessary
Joseph says, "(to GM) is Lugdunum larger(in terms of population) than Cavilorum?"
GM says, "ok, so bodoni, joseph and renard each carry a sack... that puts each of you at medium enc, counting your other stuff"
GM [to Joseph]: yes, it's perhaps twice as populous
GM [to Joseph]: and economically better off as well
Bodoni (Heat stroke anyone? :D)
Joseph says, "(to everyone) we sold more than one sack last time. We should have more luck here."
GM [to Joseph]: you sold more than one sack in cavillonum?
Corin whispers to Bodoni, "These statues are merely helping us for our cover, we should not feel obliged to sell them all.."
Bodoni Low, chuckles, and motions subtle towards Joseph "Ye try telling mine overzelous boy that, lad."
Corin says, "he's trying to look strong for that Portia, he is..""
GM says, "one sec, i'm checking the log from 8/20..."
Corin says, "hey, think that armor I ordered from you will be ready when we get back?""
GM says, "well, you certainly have one less sack than when you started"
GM says, "in any case, Portia is positively stamping her feet with impatience, so after apportioning the sacks, you set off"
Bodoni says, "Oh, with this trip turning out the way it is, most definitely."
GM says, "the first place you go is the market near the center of town"
GM says, "it's actually quite nicely designed... the whole square has been paved, with gutters to allow rainwater to escape into the sewer system..."
GM says, "there are wooden stalls set up everywhere, and merchants selling everything from textiles to food to arms and armor"
Corin looks around uneasily at the large crowds of people.
Bodoni takes in all the strange smells
GM says, "Portia leads you through the crowds and makes her way to a large stall selling fabrics..."
Corin follows Portia and the others.
GM says, "most of the wares here are woolens and linens, but there are a few bolts of a very smooth, shiny material that you've never seen before... sort of like an extremely fine linen but it can't be that"
Corin says, "((silk?))"
Corin picks up some of this smooth cloth, and feels its smoothness. "What is this?" he asks the vendor.
Bodoni (HAve I ever seen it before?)
GM says, "Portia seems knowledgeable, though, and asks the proprietor for a few samples. they talk price for a few minutes, and she chooses a small length of the material. the price they agree on is more than a gold denarius."
GM [to Bodoni]: nope
GM says, "[vendor] (to corin, sharply) put that down, boy!"
GM says, "[vendor] that's silk, imported from a land where dragons still roam... it's very valuable"
Corin scowls at the term "boy" and replaces it slowly.
Caralchis smiles
GM says, "the vendor takes the silk and puts it a little farther away so that casual hands can't pick it up so easily in the future"
Corin shifts his knife in his belt towards his front. "You may sell some ware of you were more civil."
GM says, "[Portia] now, Vento, don't scold the lad. he's just curious."
GM says, "[Vento] you know him, milady? (she inclines her head in agreement) a thousand apologies! i abase myself at your feet!"
Corin smirks, "apologies accepted Bento, curb your tongue next time!"
Corin says, "((intentionally mispronouncing.))"
Bodoni snorts a subtle at the antics
GM says, "[Portia] (laughing) come, come, Vento! an apology would be more welcome if accompanied with a gift... maybe Corin would like some of that silk for himself?"
Corin raises his eyebrow in surprise and smiles at Portia.
GM says, "[Vento] (mouth agape) i... well... (he glances at Corin in disbelief) very well, Corin, here."
GM says, "he hands Corin a very small section of the material, maybe the size of half and index card"
GM says, "and = an"
Corin grins at Vento, "Why thank-you kind sir! How noble of you!" he exagerates his expression. "Can I wear this on my nose?"
Corin balances the small piece on the tip of his nose.
Bodoni (Cheap bastard! :P)
GM says, "[Vento] (scowling at Corin) you are a valued customer, Lady Portia, but i do have my limits"
GM says, "[Portia] Corin, that small piece of silk is worth more than all the clothes you own. do not sneeze into it!"
Corin stops, as he was just about to do just that!
Corin says, "but of what use would such a small piece have?""
GM says, "Portia bids Vento farewell and answers as you begin to move away"
Corin winks at Vento as they leave.
GM says, "[Portia] you have to use your imagination, Corin. i'm sure you can figure something out."
GM says, "brb"
Bodoni (oh...uh...dangerous propostion..telling Cor to use his imagination! Heh. :D)
Corin says, "heh"
Corin says, "(it did start me thinking)"
GM says, "back"
Joseph runs back to the silk merchant, "Kindly tell me, can anyone sell things in this market? Does one have to pay to set up a booth?
Corin chuckles at Joseph running with his large sack of figurines.
GM says, "[Vento] anyone can sell things here..."
GM says, "[Vento] as long as that anyone has a license from the city"
Joseph says, "and how would one get such a license?"
Bodoni (GM, IS Vento meant to be slightly annoying?)
GM [to Bodoni]: well, let's say that he's very good at cold-reading whether or not the person he's talking to is a potential customer :)
Corin says, "((ever meet a salesman who isn't annoying?))"
Bodoni (God, he's so annoying... :) I'm having murderous thoughts! ;D heh.)
GM says, "[Vento] lad, i'm here to sell fabric... do you want to buy some woolen goods, perhaps? i don't have time to describe the intricacies of a city's bureaucracy, the correct payments to make, the people yuo have to know"
Corin says, "(lol)"
Bodoni (oh, god.... Must....resist....urge....to....kill....annoying.....merchant!!!)
GM tries to trip Bodoni's murderous-rage fuse
Bodoni (lol!)
Joseph says, "looks briefly at Vento's wares, 'no, I guess not." and turns away."
Joseph says, "(to Portia) was there any other shopping you wanted to do today?"
GM says, "it seems that Portia visits every stall in the market that morning. she buys a few other random trinkets, and you see quite a few things you've neve seen before"
GM says, "rare spices, jewelry and gems"
Corin is intrigued by all these strange things. Corin has also placed his silk within his clothing for safe-keeping.
GM says, "and jews, who among other things seem to specialize in the odd practice of selling money!"
GM says, "you've never seen jews before; in this market their stalls are cordoned off from the rest of it"
Corin motions towards the jewish section of the market and addresses Portia "who are those people and why are they set off from the rest?"
GM says, "but they do a thriving trade. Portia doesn't visit the jewish banking section, but she tells you what they do there and a little bit about the jewish faith. you've heard of them from Biblical references, of course, but that's about it"
Corin nods and looks at them curiously.
GM says, "as the sun reaches its peak, Portia is finally starting to look tired, and mentions finding a place to rest and have something to drink."
Corin licks his lips at the mention of drink.
Bodoni Likes that idea ALOT
Corin pokes Joseph, "Sell any of those things yet?"
Caralchis is a little tired and wouldn't mind a drink
GM says, "[Portia] i know a terrific place to go, and i'm buying. here, i know a shortcut!"
Joseph says, "Portia, if you direct me to the church, I'll take care of business there, while the rest of you stop for a bite to eat."
Corin says, "a shortcut?""
Corin looks dubious.
GM says, "[Portia] (to Joseph) you can't stop for a few minutes? i plan to go by the church later and i can introduce you around then."
Joseph says, "can't stop? the day's half over, and I haven't started yet."
Bodoni says, "Aye, lad...live a bit. Ye'll consume yeself at this pace."
Bodoni to Joseph
Joseph sighes 'Ok' where's this shortcut?
GM says, "[Portia] you've done a fine job of guarding me, so you shouldn't feel that you've wasted the morning. i promise we'll go to the church as soon as we've taken a short break."
GM says, "[Renard] we're being followed"
Corin looks behind them.
Corin [to Renard]: "by who?"
GM says, "[Portia] (not hearing) right through here! (she walks into a narrow alleyway)"
Bodoni looks discretely
Corin says, "Portia, wait!""
Corin runs after Portia.
Caralchis hurries after Corin
GM says, "looking back, you see a young man dressed in fine clothes surrounded by a bunch of other men. the young man is ogling Portia hungrily and walking in your direction and the others are coming with him"
Corin says, "((how many men?))"
Bodoni focused on who's following us, misses Potia's dash with Cor.
GM says, "[Portia] what?"
Corin says, "quick, I think we have trouble coming, come this way.""
GM says, "five or six. they look like toughs."
Corin says, "(can we get out of the alley in time?)"
Corin says, "(if we run?)"
GM says, "[Portia] why are you pushing me? stop it!"
GM says, "[Portia] what's going on?"
Bodoni cracks his knuckles "Trouble..ah....if it's a fight they're spoilin' fer..."
Corin says, "there are men back there! we must hurry! They wish to hurt you!""
GM says, "[Renard] why would they be spoiling for a fight?"
Corin says, "((what weapons they got?))"
GM says, "[Portia] oh, come now, Corin! isn't that a little dramatic? let me see these men."
Corin grabs Portia and tries to put her over his shoulder.
GM [to Corin]: you can see the flash of knives at the belts of a few of the men
GM says, "when you grab her, she slaps you"
GM says, "roll a dodge at -4"
GM says, "corin"
Corin says, "(roll syntax again?)"
Bodoni (Way to endear yerself to 'er, Cor. ;D)
GM [to Corin]: syntax is roll 3d with dice
Corin rolls 3 + 0.
Result [6 4 1] = 11 + 0 = 11.
GM says, "ok, you have a hand-shaped red mark on your cheek. you stand there for a moment staring at each other, breathing heavily"
GM says, "she glares, turns on her heel, and marches back in the direction of the market"
Corin says, "(towards the men?)"
GM says, "yes"
Bodoni (Way to go, Cor! Sexual tension established! Heh. :D)
Corin runs after her.
GM says, "the men continue to approach the alley. none draws a weapon or anything, and the dandy is in the lead with the rest of the men following after"
Bodoni to others "Well, lads, should we converse with our new freinds?"
Joseph says, "I don't suppose they'd buy a statue "
Corin pulls back on Portia's shoulder and points at the approaching men. "Look! Do they look friendly?"
GM chuckles @ joseph
Bodoni smiles a Joseph "Nay, lad...they look to be not the religious type."
Caralchis says, "(in response to Corin) not to me"
GM says, "Portia shrugs Corin off... AGAIN... and emerges from the alley. 'Can I help you?'"
Corin says, "((hit 'em with the 45lb sack!))"
Corin growls and places a hnd on his jeweled knife.
GM says, "[dandy] (bowing low) milady... please allow me to introduce myself."
Corin steps closer, so he is ready to step between dandy and Portia.
GM says, "[dandy] my name is Darius, and i have been captivated by your beauty and have spent the morning trying to determine how to make myself worthy of your heart."
Bodoni watches this fop and his thugs closely with a smile
Corin says, "You can start by telling your thugs to back off.""
GM says, "[Darius] i have only this... (ignoring corin's interruption) to offer."
Bodoni thinks
GM says, "Darius reaches into a bag he has slung over his back"
Corin bristles in anticipation.
GM says, "and takes out an amazing piece of glasswork"
GM says, "the sunlight glints off its impossible angles and intricate interweavings of glass. the bauble seems like some artifact brought down from heaven that doesn't belong on this earth"
Bodoni (Man...I'm just in an evil mood today. Too bad, we're not evil. We could end up selling her to this guy for profit! :D heh...)
Corin says, "(rofl)"
Corin says, "(and then just skip town)"
Bodoni (yeah! Woot!! :D)
GM says, "[Portia] you are THAT Darius?"
Bodoni stares at the artifact. Has to admit it's impressive
Corin snorts, and refuses to think its impressive.
GM says, "Darius' guards are eyeing you closely, sizing you up"
Caralchis is impressed
Bodoni looks directly at one, and flashes a confident smirk
GM says, "[Darius] (gleefully) my reputation precedes me then!"
GM says, "[Portia] (smiling a little) not only your artistic reputation, but also your romantic one. you are quite the ladykiller, are you not, Darius?"
Corin feels his blood pressure increase with his jealousy.
GM says, "[Darius] ah, Milady Portia! these things can be exaggerated. truly my previous exploits have been but ways to pass the time whlie waiting for you."
Bodoni goes to say something about 'ladykiller' but keeps it to himself
GM [to Corin]: lol
GM says, "[Portia] i see. what would you have of me, then?"
Bodoni says, "Ye woulds't do well to watch this one, Milady. I hath known many of his reputation."
Bodoni doesn't mention he used to be one of them
Corin says, "((and with viagra you could be one again.))"
Bodoni (heh.... Bodoni doesn't NEED viagra whippersnapper!!! ;D)
GM says, "[Darius] have dinner with me tonight, Portia! my benefactor, Euric, is attending a party this evening and i will be going along"
GM says, "party = banquet (better word)"
Corin shakes his head. "Portia has had a long day, and needs her rest. Perhaps tomorrow, mi-lady...."
Bodoni Narrows his eyes "Take care milady."
GM says, "[Portia] (considering) i will be quite busy today..."
GM says, "[Portia] (glancing at Corin) who is throwing this banquet, and why? it is almsot unseemly to celebrate in the wake of the tragedy that befell this city last week"
GM says, "[Darius] it is true, Euric still grieves for his murdered father."
Corin steps boldy in front of Darius. "IF you mean this lady no harm, you will step away and allow her to return to her lodgings. You can visit her there and all will be well."
GM says, "Darius starts to continue speaking, but can't ignore Corin's rudeness."
Bodoni says, "OH, aye....I know attending a party is the grieving thing to do."
Corin tries not to smile at Bodoni's remark.
Corin rests one hand on his knife.
GM says, "[Darius] step aside, please! can you not control your guards, milady? i have done nothing wrong."
Corin says, "You should step aside, sir. This is not the place for such talk.""
GM says, "[Portia] (to Corin) get back and be silent! you are not here to order me about!"
Corin hears Portia's scorching order and grimaces.
Corin glares at Darius and takes a small step to one side.
GM says, "[Darius] as i was saying... the banquet is in honor of Lord Gelbach's newborn son, and it is important that Euric attend."
GM says, "[Darius] will you consider my offer, milady?"
Corin looks at Portia warningly.
GM says, "[Portia] very well... i will come with you. (she tells him where she is staying, and they agree on the details...)"
GM says, "[Portia] until tonight then, Darius. farewell!"
GM says, "[Darius] farewell, milady!"
Bodoni warns Portia after Darius is away "Tis a folly, milady. That boy means thee ill will."
Corin nods in agreement.
GM says, "Darius and his guards go away, and Portia turns to Corin and grabs his wrist"
Corin looks at Portia.
GM says, "[Portia] if you would serve me well, guard me. do not order me about like a serving wench!"
Corin lowers his head, embarrassed. "I am sorry, milady, I felt your safety was at stake."
Corin feels his cheek thoughtfully, which still smarts from the slap.
GM says, "[Portia] (softly) i know... i know. (she looks at him a moment longer, then lets go his wrist) now let's have lunch!"
Corin looks back at Darius to make sure they have fully left.
Bodoni (Damn....we should have sold her. :P ;D)
Corin says, "(no kidding, specially after she b'd me out)"
GM says, "(typical PCs - think they're the center of the universe :)"
Caralchis says, "of course!!"
Corin says, "(Im the center of mine!)"
Bodoni (Thinks a merc campaign would be FUN. ;D)
Corin says, "(pretty funny visual of that whole scene.)"
GM says, "alright... you have a bite to eat... the midday meal is a small one, just bread and cheese and wine, but everything is of fine quality and you enjoy it immensely"
Bodoni Bodoni eats too much
GM says, "over lunch Portia regales you with entertaining stories of her home"
Corin is slowly getting over the fact that he made such a fool of himself.
Bodoni Listens to the young woman's stories
GM says, "to the annoyance of Joseph, the meal takes much longer than Portia had made it sound like it would"
GM says, "but finally it is over and Portia tells Joseph that she has not forgotten her promise and she now wants to go to the church"
Corin decides he will be less forward in his guard duties from now on.
Joseph brightens at the mention of the church
GM says, "[Portia] (to Joseph) don't be disappointed by the church in Lugdunum. remember that this is an Aryan nation, so we Catholics are still in the minority."
GM says, "hehe... Aryan nation... slip of the tongue :)"
Corin says, "((freudian slip .... we know you're a skin-head))"
GM says, "hey, that's male pattern baldness, not a reflection of my political beliefs!"
GM says, "brb"
Bodoni (::Snickers::)
Caralchis says, "(he he)"
Corin says, "(rofl - he's going to apply some rogaine)"
GM says, "...this is an Arian nation... (she would have said)"
GM says, "it's true that the church is located in a relatively poor section of town, but it's certainly bigger and more beautiful that the church in Cavillonum"
Corin says, "Miss Portia, if you need an escort to the banquet tonite, allow me to offer myself as an apology for my actions today.""
GM says, "which in turn was the biggest one you'd ever seen before, Joseph. so this one looks plenty impressive"
Bodoni (hmmm....poor slum section with big ritch church smack in the middle? Coincidence? I think not! :D)
GM says, "the flying buttress hasn't been invented yet, so the interior is all arches and supporting columns... the windows are fairly small, but covered with exquisite stained glass - a product of Darius maybe?"
GM says, "Portia pauses outside to consider Corin's offer"
Joseph admires the statuary and windows, shakes his head at Dad's cynicism
GM says, "[Portia] i would prefer not to have guards along tonight, but Faustulus will insist on it."
Corin says, "of course, all of us are available to guard you at the banquet if need be.""
GM says, "[Portia] any of you who wish may come, but know that if another scene happens like this noon's i will be mortally embarrassed."
Bodoni Thinks what better thing to go to then a party "Oh, aye...I'd most certainly like to come."
Corin nods. "We will only be seen if needed, milady."
Corin looks at his common clothes and wonders what he'll wear.
Bodoni says, "Aye...aye...that much can be certain."
Caralchis says, "It would certainly be a more interesting use of the evening"
Joseph says, "are there services going on in the church right now?"
GM says, "Portia suggests they talk about this later and goes into the church"
Corin looks at Bodoni and the others. "I will be right back, I need to buy something, I will meet you here or back at our lodgings."
GM [to Joseph]: nope, just a few people standing around and a few kneeling
Corin says, "watch over Portia, Bodoni.""
Bodoni nods
Joseph prays at the altar
Corin quickly steps outside looking for a clothing merchant.
GM says, "Portia takes out 7 candles that she had bought earlier in the market and hands them around."
Bodoni Takes a candle
Caralchis takes one too
Joseph says, "thank you, Portia"
GM says, "she keeps on for herself, lights it and sticks it into the sand at the... candle-sticking place (does that have a name?)"
GM says, "on = one"
GM says, "Portia notices she has one extra candle and lights it as well"
Joseph says, "Is there one main altar or are there side chapels?"
GM says, "she kneels and remains in that position for ten minutes..."
GM [to Joseph]: there is a chapel and a few other buildings behind and to the side of the church
Bodoni Follows Portia's suit
Caralchis kneels and "prays"
GM says, "eventually, Portia rises and waits patiently for the rest of you to complete your devotions"
Caralchis stands not long after Portia is finished
Bodoni Stands as soon as Portia is finished
Corin nods and scowls at the man, "Unless it is free here?"
GM says, "joseph, are you doing anything in particular here?"
Joseph says, "prays for the safety of his mother back home, patience with the corin/portia situation, and success with selling the statues."
Corin says, "(lol)"
Bodoni Ventures "So, shall we be selling these wares soon?"
Joseph rises. 'Portia, where might I find the Bishop?"
GM says, "Portia leads you out a side door and into a courtyard."
Corin says, "(no bopping the bishop)"
GM says, "[Portia] i'm taking you there now"
Bodoni follows
Caralchis follows
Joseph follows too
GM says, "there is a small but well-appointed private villa hidden behind vine-covered walls back of the church."
GM says, "Portia leads you through the gate and into the courtyard, where a sleepy guard wearing a sword snap to attention, recognizes Portia, and waves hello"
GM says, "snap = snaps"
GM says, "[Portia] is Bishop Convenitus in?"
GM says, "the guard nods and points, and Portia takes you inside"
GM says, "ooc: can we continue for another 15 minutes, or does anyone need to go?"
Caralchis says, "sure"
Corin says, "ooc - okay here i think"
Bodoni (I can stick around..)
Joseph says, "I can stay"
GM says, "Convenitus is sitting at a desk working on something when you arrive. he is quite fat, dressed in fine robes, with a gold cross on a chain around his neck"
GM says, "a gold goblet brimming with wine sits on his fine wooden desk"
GM says, "[Convenitus] Portia, my dear! it's been too long!"
GM says, "the two exchange pleasantries. it's clear that they've known each other for some time. the Bishop asks about Portia's family and Portia mentions that the bishop has been promoted since their last meeting"
GM says, "you gather that Convenitus used to be a priest in Portia's home town"
GM says, "their greetings done, Portia introduces each of you to Convenitus, ending with Joseph"
Bodoni says, "Begon thy pardon bishop, but I did see thine beautiful glass windows...were they constructed by Darius?"
GM says, "[Convenitus] (to Bodoni) yes, they were indeed. you know him?"
Bodoni says, "Oh, not really... we did meet the lad in the town market today. He hath invited milday Portia to a party of some kind."
Bodoni says, "I know little about the local artists. Can ye tell me about him? T'would be greatly appreciated."
Bodoni humble
GM says, "[Convenitus] great artist, but terrible to work with. the church wouldn't hire him again, that's for certain."
Bodoni says, "Ah, why is that praytell?"
GM says, "[Convenitus] i shan't discuss the shortcomings of others; i've already said too much."
Bodoni says, "Ah, I understand...thank ye though in any event."
Corin says, "((GM is double-timing so....))"
Joseph says, "your Excellency, we come from the north. Some friends of ours, asetic monks, craft these lovely statues. We want to ask your permission to sell them here, near the church."
GM says, "Convenitus takes a sample figurine and examines it closely"
GM says, "he is obviously impressed by the fine workmanship"
Joseph says, "you may keep that one for yourself, your excellency."
GM says, "[Convenitus] you want to sell them here, eh? i don't know...."
GM says, "[Convenitus] thank you for the kind gift."
Joseph says, "of course, we donate part of the profits to the church"
Bodoni says, "Oh, aye, t'would only be fare for thine permission to sell at thine church."
GM says, "[Convenitus] of course. but is that really the best way to go about this? the church is deeply pleased by donations, but even more pleased by a greater donation."
Joseph says, "I'm not sure I take your meaning, your excellency. We are but simple merchants. What kind of donation are you speaking of?"
Bodoni (HE wants the woman! I know it! ;D :P)
GM says, "[Convenitus] let's backtrack a bit. you are obviously devout Catholics. did you buy these figurines for the purpose of selling them and donating the entire profit to the church?"
Joseph says, "not exactly. an asetic monk, a friend of my teacher, made these. He asked me to sell them and donate part of the profit to the church in Cavilorum."
Joseph says, "you might want to look at this... (hand the Bishop the vellum packet)"
GM says, "[Convenitus] ah, i see. this monk must have underestimated your devotion, if he asked you to donate only PART of you profit to the church! surely the pleasure of sacrificing for the church is sufficient reward in and of itself, is it not?"
Bodoni (LOL! I'm getting those murderous impulses again, GM! ;D)
GM says, "[Convenitus] (reading over Theudar's letter) yes, i know of Father Theudar. he recommends you highly."
Joseph looks at Bodoni and Caralcus. "For me, it certainly is. For my companions, I suspect they expect to receive material reward for their efforts.
GM says, "[Convenitus] (frowning slightly) so? they are not Catholics then?"
Joseph says, "Indeed they are good Catholics, with families to support and obligations to maintain."
Bodoni (Must...resist....urge...to...um, isn't this where I came in? ;D)
GM says, "[Convenitus] (smiling) the Lord will provide, as always, son."
Joseph gives Bodoni the 'I don't think we're getting anywhere' look
Bodoni supresses a smile at Joseph
Bodoni says, "Aye... I see the lord hath provided well for thee.. mayhaps his excellency is correct?"
GM says, "[Convenitus] in my capacity as the local bringer of the Light of Christianity, yes."
Caralchis says, "i have to go now"
Bodoni says, "Indeed, your excellency."
Corin says, "((must go real soon too))"
GM says, "ok, let's stop here and you can think about what to try with the nice Bishop next time"
Joseph says, "good game"
GM says, "*** END SESSION ***"
Joseph says, "I need to let you know that I won't be able to play the weekend after next. (Oct. 8). I'll be at a game convention."
Corin grins. Yes lots of fun.
