GM says, "*** START SESSION ***"
GM says, "to recap from the previous session"
GM has reconnected.
GM says, "sorry, i just got disconnected! did my recap get through?"
Corin says, "nope"
GM says, "you were working on a plan to get in to see Euric, and currently it revolved around getting Portia an audience"
GM says, "she has sent off a messenger to deliver her request"
Corin says, "Did anyone notice if Euric's guards were all dressed similarly, in any kind of uniform?"
GM says, "so you await a reply. are you going to lounge around at the inn until you hear back, or do something proactive?"
Corin says, "((did we notice this GM?))"
GM [to Corin]: the guards were dressed similarly, but not in any sort of uniform. the armor and weapons were all similar, though.
GM [to Corin]: what are you trying to determine?
Renard [to GM]: how many guards do we expect are employed by Euric?
Corin wonders whether one could walk around the place if dressed as a guard.
Caralchis thought he had some clever idea last session, but can't for the life of him remember what
GM [to Renard]: you don't have any expectations, but joseph and caralchis counted over ten while they were there
GM [to Renard]: the number is probably enhanced since his villa is outside the city walls and thus is not within easy reach of the city guards
Corin says, "If Euric has done something bad to Garomach, he wont volunteer the information, nor will he treat us well."
Corin says, "We are tipping our hand to him by requesting to see him, I think."
Bodoni says, "Aye, you can be more'n sure of that, lad. This is bound to get ugly, lads."
Renard says, "Euric is a leader of this city, is he not? We can't get "ugly" with him in any case"
Corin says, "Although, he should treat Portia well. She may be best suited to be the one who questions him."
Renard says, "Our only hope is that Portia can shame him into at least revealing what has happened. After all, he has nothing to fear from us."
GM says, "Euric is the son of a city father, so he certainly ranks highly here. This is especially true since his father's death."
GM says, "[Portia] since i requested the audience i should be the one to speak with him. but i certainly hope things do not get violent."
Renard says, "The way I see it, we can either wait for him to agree to see Portia, or head over there, having given notice, forcing the issue in order to take him by surprise"
Renard says, "Portia, we would be foolhardy indeed to start a row with Euric"
Joseph says, "option one- get Portia to get us an audience with Euric, option two - breaking in ourselves, is there an option 3?"
Corin says, "Ask questions of thsoe that may know more?"
Corin says, "The guards may be bribe-able."
GM says, "[Portia] what do you suppose Euric's agenda is, anyway?"
Corin says, "Revenge for his father, for sure."
Corin says, "Secure his own city."
Caralchis says, "You think he sees Garomach as a threat to his power?"
Corin says, "He may have been offended the questions Garomach was asking of Perfu."
Renard says, "Euric has made a deal with Perfu, you know "
Bodoni says, "Aye, if Garomach was in some state as to suggest some sort of treaty with this Perfu, Euric may have been driven beyond his reason."
Corin says, "what was that term, Perfu something?"
Corin says, "((any of us remember?))"
Bodoni says, "The Perfu deal, lad."
Corin says, "ah, yes, what is that anyway?"
Bodoni shrugs "I expect we'll have to find thet out from Euric himself."
Renard says, "So shall we head right over, or wait for a polite invitation?"
Corin says, "we may do best by asking that question ourselves before storming into Euric's."
GM says, "[Portia] it could be a couple of hours before i get a reply"
Joseph says, "who else could we talk to before we storm the villa? Modag maybe?"
Corin says, "yes, Modag may know much."
Renard says, "I won't have that sorceror get involved!"
Bodoni Rolls his eyes "He may be able to help, Renard. He seems harmless enough.
Caralchis nods, "Modag could indeed be a valuable source of information"
Corin says, "where would we find him?"
Caralchis ponders this
GM says, "[Portia] he's a friend of Darius"
Corin says, "and how does that help us?"
Joseph says, "I'm not sure Darius looks upon us with favor, m'lady"
Bodoni sighs "Back to the peacock's den, eh?"
GM says, "[Portia] yes, it was just a thought"
GM says, "(you could probably find Modag if you asked around enough. of course, finding him within a couple of hours might be tough.)"
GM says, "in any case, one of you needs to step up and take a leadership role. you're spending too much time dithering here."
Caralchis says, "we could ask around for a little while and then give up if it takes too long... there's nothing to be lost from trying"
GM says, "(although it's great that you're asking these questions and trying to figure all of this out. just what i was hoping for!)"
Corin says, "Why dont a couple of us go with Portia to ask some harmless questions of EUric, while the others wander around looking for info elswhere. Modag, Darius, Perfu's Deal, etc."
Bodoni says, "I could go with Caralchis and ask around, while the rest of you investigate Euric."
Caralchis says, "That sounds reasonable"
Joseph says, "fair enough"
Corin nods, ok. we;ll meet here at the inn then later today.
Bodoni rises and says to Caralchis with a grin "Come, my freind, me have much work to do."
Caralchis rises as well, "there's no real reason for us to bring weapons is there?"
GM says, "i was just about to ask about weapons, etc. :)"
Renard says, "Perhaps we should all go to Euric, to show some muscle. We can bring our arms in the carraca"
Corin says, "I'm bringing mine."
Bodoni says, "I wouldn't. But ye can bring a knife if ye feel safer that way."
Caralchis shrugs
Bodoni says to Caralchis
Corin says, "THey will search us again?"
Joseph says, "most likely"
Corin says, "Why dont we draw Euric out of his place?"
Corin says, "He would be with limited guards then, and we could be armed."
Corin says, "The term Perfu's deal thrown in somewhere may get his attention."
Corin says, "Or shall we just go in unarmed?"
Renard says, "It would be best if Portia could draw him out, of course. "
GM says, "[Portia] how should i do that?"
Corin turns to Portia. "Tell him there are a couple of men asking of Perfu's deal, and demanding to see him personally. We can meet downtown somewhere."
Corin says, "Bodoni, what was the name of that tavern you showed me? "
Bodoni ?Did it even have a name?
GM says, "[Portia] (slowly) i could do that. do you think in town would be safer, with all the city guards around?"
GM says, "(most inns and taverns are just called 'the inn run by Faustulus' and so on. formal names aren't really used.)"
Corin says, "hrmmm, maybe meet outside? Good idea..."
Corin says, "okay, on the edge of the woods, just east of the city."
Bodoni relays the name of the owner of the tavern to Corin
Corin says, "((assuming there are some woods east))"
GM says, "actually, the east side of the city is formed by the Savus River. but there are woods to the west :)"
GM says, "oops, Sauna River, not Savus. my mistake :)"
Corin says, "Portia, return to Faustulus after getting Euric the info, dont come to the woods in the west."
Corin says, "It may get ugly...like Bodoni said."
Bodoni says, "We'd better get going. Caralchis, bring your knife, and let's go."
Renard says, "I don't think we should construct an ambush. Firstly, he may not fall for it. Secondly, it'll bring on more trouble than it's worth. I think we're best to take him straight, with a show of implied force, and convince him that it'll be easier if he just tells us what happened to Garomach"
Bodoni motions to the door
GM says, "[Portia] what should i tell him if he asks me who these men are and how i know them?"
Corin says, "A show of force? Six of us?"
Caralchis moves toward the door
Bodoni Leaves with Caralchis in tow
GM says, "bodoni and caralchis head off to ask some questions while the remaining four of you continue working on a strategy"
GM says, "or five, or three, depending on how you count Portia and Johan :)"
Corin says, "Tell him you dont know, but they entered the inn you were staying at and you overheard them mention Euric, who you knew."
Renard says, "Well, Bodoni and Caralchis would have made more"
Corin says, "They asked you to go to Euric with this info. Renard, I dont plan on ambushing, just making our odds better."
Corin says, "Euric's place was crawling with guards, surely they all wont come."
Renard says, "Corin, Euric might not come, either!"
Corin says, "'Tis true, but he will send someone who knows of Perfu's deal."
Renard says, "I say we behave like honorable men and head straight into his compound. "
Corin looks at the others. "Well, I guess it is up to you to decide."
Corin says, "I know. Renard, go with Portia."
Corin says, "If yo uthink it is ok to talk, ask the questions directly."
Corin says, "Otherwise, stick to my plan."
GM [to bodoni&caralchis]: each of you make a Streetwise roll to see what you discover about Modag
Corin says, "sound fair Renard?"
Bodoni rolls 3 + 0.
Result [1 6 6] = 13 + 0 = 13.
Bodoni (Pft!)
Corin says, "((Bodoni get lost in a tavern.))"
GM says, "he can't even FIND a tavern!"
GM grins
Caralchis rolls 3 + 0.
Result [5 2 6] = 13 + 0 = 13.
Caralchis (Pft!)
Bodoni (hey! I don't seem to have streetwise!)
Corin says, "((you can say that again))"
Renard says, "Well, the point was to have a show of force waiting in the wings, to persuade him to be more open. But we can imply the existence of more men - Portia, can you offer any implied threats to this venture, with your social connections?"
Caralchis (which makes it even worse... rolling against the default
GM says, "neither of you has streetwise, but you can roll a default. if you have a better skill in mind, though..."
Bodoni (You too have no streetwise skill, Caralchis?)
Corin says, "((Bodoni must have carousing))"
Bodoni (What about the carousing skill...?)
Bodoni (that's what I used last time.)
Caralchis (no i don't have it either... the default is IQ-5)
GM [to Bodoni]: a successful roll would give you a bonus, but that's all. that's what we did last time.
Bodoni (Okay.. I'll try.)
Bodoni rolls 3 + 0.
Result [2 1 3] = 6 + 0 = 6.
Corin says, "((wow))"
Corin rolls 3 + 0. Result [1 1 1] = 3 + 0 = 3.
GM [to Bodoni]: ok, you make a great impression with the taverngoers you meet
Bodoni (Jeeze!)
GM blasts Corin with a lightning bolt
Corin says, "((grin))"
GM [to Bodoni]: but while you find a couple of people who have heard of Modag, you don't find anyone who knows where he lives or where he might be
Bodoni (hehehe..)
Caralchis (haha.. corin wasted his good roll! :)
Bodoni turns to Caralchis "Looks like this is going nowhere fast. Mayhaps we should pay the peacock a visit?"
GM [to Renard]: [Portia] i have connections back home, but not many here. i'm not sure what good that would do.
Caralchis says, "in light of there being nothing else to do, I agree"
Corin says, "((ooo, Darius will love to see those two.))"
Caralchis (we're the best of buddies)
Bodoni once again we head out towards Darius' pad
GM says, "do you know where Darius lives?"
Bodoni (hrm... ;D)
Caralchis (ummm... we'll just say we do)
Caralchis (find a random house and assume it's his)
Bodoni ?No but don't we know where the party took place?
Corin says, "((That was at Euric's))"
Bodoni (uh....we may meet sonner than you think... ;D)
GM says, "party was at Lord Gelbach's villa."
GM says, "note also that Euric is Darius' patron."
GM says, "(just to complicate things even further!)"
Bodoni (ah! Okay...we'll go there, and ask. Surely someone will know.)
Corin says, "(Have we been inside Euric's place then?)"
GM [to Bodoni]: how much time are you willing to spend overall?
GM [to Corin]: only this morning when joseph and caralchis visited there
Corin says, "((Is Euric lower down the pole than Gelbach?))"
GM [to Bodoni]: i ask because walking to Lord Gelbach's would take a good half-hour and you said you'd meet back in "a couple of hours"
Bodoni ?We'll spend a 4 or so hours, looking. How's that? Too long?
GM [to Corin]: you aren't sure, actually. they're both pretty high up.
Bodoni Oh... ;D I see...
GM [to Bodoni]: you spent nearly two hours seeking Modag
Bodoni (hm...What do you think Caralchis? ;D)
Caralchis (hmmm)
Bodoni admits "Looks like our time's about up, we'd better head back."
GM says, "note also that Euric's and Gelbach's villas are quite close, only a five minute walk or so"
Caralchis says, "aye"
Bodoni says to Caralchis
Corin says, "Maybe we can talk to Lord Gelbach and ask him."
GM says, "i mean close to each other, not close to you right now :)"
Bodoni leaves to rejoin the others having found no new info, or located Modag.
Caralchis follows Bodoni
GM says, "very well. the six of you are back at Faustulus' inn in mid-afternoon."
Bodoni (Well, that was unproductive... ;D)
Corin says, "we never went anywhere?"
Bodoni (at least we got to drink. ;D)
GM says, "in the meantime, the messenger Portia sent off has returned with this information"
GM says, "'Euric is unavailable to take audiences at this time, but when he returns he will notify Portia of his decision.'"
Corin says, "well, it looks like we're at option 2."
GM [to Corin]: you never made a decision, spending the two hours B&C were gone discussing your options
Bodoni nods "As unfortunate as that seems."
GM says, "which one was option 2? the storming of the Bastille?"
Renard says, "Let's go demand an audience. Lady, say it's an urgent matter of life and death, and the security of the city."
Corin says, "Lets go to Gelbach's on our way to Euric's."
Bodoni Rises "Alright, then...everyone ready?"
Corin questions the messenger. "Was the place heavily guarded?"
GM says, "the messenger can't stay and answer your questions, as he has other jobs to do. however, he does tell you that he didn't actually get inside, but had to wait at the servants' gate for a reply, so he didn't see much. there were guards at the front gate and servants' gate, though."
Renard says, "What have we got to lose? Let's go."
Corin nods and rises.
Bodoni leaves with the others
GM says, "ok. you're renting a carruca, or what?"
Corin says, "yes, a carruca."
GM says, "bringing all of your weapons and armor, or not?"
Renard [to GM]: yep
Bodoni nods
Corin says, "yes, they did not search the carruca last time."
Renard says, "Who's got the money to rent a carruca?"
GM says, "Faustulus can help you find a suitable carruca. You'll need a fairly large one to handle the seven of you plus gear."
Corin points at Bodoni.
Bodoni grins and sheepishly admits "Yes...well...I may not have as much as I started with."
Renard says, "Let's get as small a carruca as possible that will fit us all. We don't want them to think we've got an army inside."
Bodoni says, "That sounds reasonable."
Corin nods at Renard. "We should stop before getting to Euric's and approach on feet maybe?"
GM says, "they will almost certainly at least glance inside the carruca at the villa gate, even if they do not search it. you might want to consider that."
Corin says, "Hide our armor and weapons under something?"
Renard says, "Sure, let's just have the weapons handy. We don't really want to start a war"
Bodoni (let's scotch tape it to the bottom of the wagon! ;D)
Corin is starting to think this mission is foolhardy.
GM says, "the carruca driver is a small and wizened old man with a leathery face and wisps of gray hair. he introduces himself as Tuval"
GM [to Bodoni]: life before duct tape was hard, wasn't it? :)
Corin says, "Tuval, where can we put our gear so its hidden from casual view?"
Bodoni (yes.. ;D)
GM says, "[Tuval] most passengers put their bags and such up top *pointing to the roof of the carruca* but you could see them up there"
GM says, "[Tuval] what're you wanting to hide, anyway?"
Corin looks at the others. "Are we really planning on storming this place armed to the teeth? This is nuts."
Corin says, "Tuval, nevermind, just drive.""
Renard says, "We"
Renard says, "We"
GM says, "[Tuval] just trying to help! YOU asked ME, you know."
GM [to Renard]: ?
Renard says, "[oops] We're not storming anything. We just want Euric to know that he might get a lot of trouble if he doesn't come clean"
Renard says, "Shove the weapons under the seats in case we need them. We can leave the armor here if it's too bulky."
Corin says, "Nothing wrong with wearing armor."
Corin says, "Mine's just leather anyway."
GM says, "and bodoni can finally show off his lorica segmentata! :)"
Corin suddenly remember his special armor getting made in Praesus, and his mother, and gets a little homesick.
Bodoni gets armored
Corin also dons his armor. Corin slips his sword under the seat of the carruca.
GM says, "ok, you don your armor and bring your weapons into the carruca. Tuval, looking down at you from his driver's perch, comments, "What're you off to do? Fight the Langobards?" He chuckles."
Caralchis is jealous of Bodoni's spiffy armor
Corin [to Tuval]: "nah, in case you get us lost, we want to deal with you quickly."
Renard [to GM]: we [Johan and I] wear our armor and put our weapons under the seats.
GM . o O Corin's not in a good mood today :>
Corin has a bad feeling with this.
Bodoni places his mace under one of the seats
Joseph puts on his leather armor and helmet; tries to find a place to stash his sword under the seat covers
GM says, "[Tuval] I won't get you lost, i know right where Lord Euric's villa is."
Renard says, "Lady, say that you must leave town quickly and that we are your guards, and that you need an immediate audience with Euric."
Joseph says, "Corin, were putting Portia in a lot of danger"
Corin says, "we're putting us in a lot of danger, also."
Caralchis chuckles
Corin says, "we dont need Portia. She should stay here."
GM says, "the carruca is a two-horse deal, big enough for the seven of you but cramped. it's supposed to seat six unarmormed people."
Bodoni says, "Aye. I agree. Lady Portia should stay here."
GM says, "[Portia] but i requested the audience earlier! am i not your ticket inside?"
Renard says, "There is no danger! We need Portia, or else Euric will tell us to screw ourselves!"
Caralchis says, "I feel we would not be doing our best to be your guards if we put you in danger... but if you wish to come I will not hinder you"
Bodoni sighs "Very well, though I still think this is a reckless use of the woman put under our charge, Renard."
Corin hesitates. "Alright, but its on your consicience Renard."
GM says, "she climbs inside the carruca and calls out, "Let's be off, Tuval!""
Renard says, "hmph!"
Corin slips in beside Portia.
GM says, "(Portia does seem eager to help out.)"
Renard says, "It'll be on Euric's conscience! And that we must count on."
Renard says, "lezgo"
GM says, "the way is familiar by now, and within twenty minutes you are approaching the villa"
GM says, "are you going to roll right up to the gate?"
Corin says, "((roll right past it! j/k)"
GM says, "oh yeah, what about this Gelbach side trip? is that still happening?"
Bodoni (afk, fas)
Corin says, "((wonders whether the GM will tell us it would be worthwhile.))"
GM [to Corin]: remind me what the point of seeing Gelbach was?
Renard says, "...straight to Euric's..."
Corin says, "((heh...ummmmm ask of Perfu's deal, and the fate of the one armed guy?))"
Renard [to GM]: is it about dinner time?
GM [to Renard]: it's still earlier than that. maybe 4pm?
Bodoni (bak.)
Renard says, "Well, let's just move on. If he's not home for dinner, we can wait."
GM says, "the carruca rolls forward. you keep your heads inside so as not to tip off anyone watching."
GM says, "but from a distance you saw two guards at the gate, wearing leather armor and carrying spears."
Corin fingers his knife within his clothes nervously.
GM says, "from outside the carruca you hear one guard: "who calls on Lord Euric?""
Corin elbows Portia gently.
GM says, "[Tuval] it is the Lady Portia"
GM says, "Portia sticks her head outside and says, "Yes, I must see Euric. It is an urgent matter!""
GM says, "[guard] one moment, milady."
Corin admires Portia's tenacity, and her outstretched body.
GM says, "brb"
Corin says, "((lag test))"
GM says, "footsteps as the guard goes inside, and you wait. after a few minutes there are more footsteps - at least three people are returning from inside the villa"
Corin says, "uh-oh" under his breath."
Bodoni tenses
GM says, "the curtain on one side of the carruca is drawn back, and you see Euric's chief servant Pemidon standing there"
GM says, "he is flanked by two guards"
GM says, "[Pemidon] Lady Portia?"
Corin gulps, and lets Portia do the talking.
GM says, "[Portia] as i told the guard, it is urgent that i see Lord Euric. did you not receive the request for an audience that i sent some hours ago?"
GM says, "[Pemidon] ah yes, i sent a reply that he was unavailable. however, he has returned recently and is willing to see you."
GM says, "[Pemidon] i see you have not come alone, however."
GM says, "[Portia] these are my guards - i bring them with me at all times."
Bodoni gives Pemidon a nod
Caralchis inclines his head
Renard -- if we go inside, some folks need to stay and guard the carruca
GM says, "[Pemidon] *looking thoughtful* yes, very well, your guards may enter with you."
GM says, "[Pemidon] however, please have them enter one at a time, on foot."
Corin raises his eyebrows, wondering why. To be searched, he thinks?
Renard [to GM]: do we expect to have to check our weapons?
GM [to Renard]: that would be consistent with what happened at Lord Gelbach's, at least
Corin slips his knife under Portia's seat when Pemidon leaves.
Corin says, "Portia, we will get our weapons from the carruca when we help you out of the carruca.""
GM says, "[Portia] whatever we can do to expedite my speaking to Euric. we will be leaving town immediately but have information relating to city security that he must be apprised of."
Corin says, "((i say this later obviously.))"
Renard says, "I dunno -- do we all go in, or does someone stay with the weapons?"
GM says, "[Portia] go along, then."
Renard says, "Perhaps it's better not to split up -- shall we all go in?"
Renard looks somewhat frustrated and confused
GM says, "Pemidon is standing right there watching this conversation with interest"
GM says, "[Pemidon] Lady Portia, your guards seem unwilling to follow these simple directions."
Corin says, "((Pemidon wont leave?))"
Renard [please.]
Corin says, "We will follow you directions, but the Lady's safety is our goal. Let us speak with her alone.""
GM [to Renard]: obviously i'll assume you didn't actually tell Pemidon about the weapons, but he's standing right there watching you and you aren't telepathic
Renard gets out of the carruca (without his weapon), motions for everyone else, glares at Pemidon
GM says, "[Pemidon] she will be safe here."
Bodoni leaves the Carruca next
Corin slips his knife under the seat during the commotion of the guards getting out.
Joseph shoves his sword under the seat one last time with his foot and follows Renard outside
Caralchis exits the carruca without his weapon
Corin also climbs out unarmed.
GM says, "renard goes first, and walks through the gate. there are two guards there, one standing back with a spear and the other ready to accept Renard's weapon"
GM says, "[guard] we'll hold onto your weapons while you're here, please."
Renard shows his open hands.
GM says, "[guard] you are unarmed?"
Renard says, "I don't need no stinkin' weapon."
Corin says, "((lol))"
Bodoni (Chuckles)
GM says, "the guard checks you quickly, makes a quick decision, and tells you to stand aside"
Renard [to GM]: aside?
GM says, "are you any you trying to sneak weapons inside using Holdout, or just leaving them in the carruca?"
Corin whispers to Bodoni. "This does look suspicious."
Bodoni nods slightly
Corin says, "((just leave them in carruca.))"
GM [to Renard]: he points to where you should wait
Corin says, "((we can claim innocence that way.))"
GM says, "quick description of the villa grounds:"
Bodoni leaves his mace inside the Carruca, knowing it will never pass holdout inspection
Corin says, "((Unless you have an extra large cavity, Bodoni.))"
Caralchis (there's nothing wrong with telling them we left our weapoons in the carruca is there?)
Corin says, "(dont tell them!)"
GM says, "surrounded on four sides by the wall, which is stone and about 5 feet high. two gates, one main gate and one for servants. inside the walls are gardens, a few small stands of trees, and marble furniture and sculpture."
GM says, "there are several buildings. the main building is in the center of the yard and is a standard open-courtyard structure. there is another building near the servants' gate that you assume is a servants' quarters, and another fairly near the front gate that might be a guards' quarters."
GM [to Renard]: the place where Pemidon points is near one of the stands of trees, by a marble sculpture of a naked man throwing a spear
Renard goes
Corin looks towards the carruca, wondering how it will enter.
GM says, "eventually all six of you have passed inspection. the guards doing the checking are obviously surprised by your lack of weapons."
Bodoni follows Renard when he's able to
Corin says loudly, "I will help Lady Portia out of the carruca." and heads towards it after being inspected.
Joseph says, "I'll go too, ""
Joseph follows Corin
GM says, "the two guards doing the checking stop you. "Wait here, please.""
GM says, "you hear Pemidon ask Portia if she would enter on foot as well and leave the carruca outside."
Renard walks back to the guard house...
Corin yells to Tuval. "Wait until we return! We wont be long."
GM says, "She responds haughily that she would do no such thing and even such a request is rude and beneath her dignity. Lord Euric will surely hear of this, blah blah blah... Pemidon gives in."
Renard says, "Johan, lead the carucca inside"
GM [to Renard]: there are two guards with spears and leather armor keeping you in a group by those trees.
Renard walks past them, without eye contact
GM says, "one second, renard"
GM says, "aside from the two guards keeping you in position (or trying to), and the two at the front gate, you see a surprising paucity of other people in the villa grounds"
GM says, "only a few servants, who are keeping their distance, and no other guards at all."
Renard [to GM]: it seems that myself, johan, and corin are all trying to get back to the carucca to assist Portia...
Corin scowls at the restraining guard."I have been checked already. Allow me to escort the Lady Portia."
GM [to Renard]: the guard levels his spear at your chest and warns you to stay put
Renard grabs the spear, yelling "do not threaten me!
Corin says, "((uh-oh))"
GM says, "the other guards levels HIS spear at johan. there's no one left to threaten corin."
GM says, "ok, we obviously need to switch to combat mode at this time :)"
Renard [to GM]: how many miles away from the carucca did we allow ourselves to be marched?
GM says, "we'll start going second by second. brb."
Bodoni (?Um, where the hell am i? ;D)
GM says, "you know, this would be a great place to have a map to look at, wouldn't it? :)"
Corin says, "yes it would"
Bodoni (Why, yes.. ;D)
Renard [to GM]: we're getting close to the end -- I suggest we have a second of action, as a teaser, and to clarify the situation for us to think on this week, then call the game a bit early.
GM says, "i'm sorry about that. i suppose we could end the session here and i could have a map ready for next session."
Bodoni (I followed Renard, so, am I near him?)
GM says, "now, let me do my best to clarify, in words, the current situation, and we'll do that first second of action as renard suggested."
Bodoni (okie dokie. :D)
GM says, "assume you're standing inside the front gate (not that anybody is)."
GM says, "about 40 yards directly in front of you is the main building"
GM says, "the stand of trees would be to your right and about 15 yards from the main building"
GM says, "the guard house would be about 15 yards from the gate, also to your right, and next to the wall"
GM says, "the area where the guards had you wait was between the trees and the guard house, but closer to the trees."
GM says, "after the guards checked the last of you, they came over to keep you in position. at that point, you heard Pemidon and Portia talking and Pemidon agree to let Portia bring the carruca inside."
Renard [to GM]: did we enter through the guard house? And Portia and the carucca are outside the [presumably open] front gate, which is a few yards away?
Corin says, "((we have only seen a total of 2 guards so far then?))"
GM says, "you're probably 20 yards from the front gate at this point. no, you didn't come in *through* the guard house."
Renard [to GM]: we came in through the front gate then?
GM [to Renard]: yes
GM [to Corin]: you've seen four. two at the front gate (who are still there), and the two keeping you in position.
Renard [to GM]: and we were instructed to walk 60 feet away, for some reason?
Renard [to GM]: I thought we were just 'stepping aside'
GM says, "obviously we need a map."
Corin says, "((renard may not have grabbed at the spear if he had known he was 60' away from the carruca?))"
GM says, "sure, maybe not."
Renard [to GM]: the only thing I'm concerned about is how far we were marched from the gate. I figured we were each entering, stepping 'aside' (say, no more than 10 yds) and waiting for everyone else. It would seem to us very odd, I would think, to be given explicit instructions to march across the yard to a specific point, one at a time. We would feel that we were being corralled.
Corin says, "((well renard, would you still grab at the spear knowing the situation?))"
GM says, "you were entering (coming inside a few yards), being checked, then being sent over to a waiting area."
GM says, "look, here's what we'll do"
GM says, "i'll prepare a map for next time. that was my mistake, but i wasn't sure exactly where you'd end up this session."
GM says, "we'll start at the point where you six are inside and Portia has just convinced Pemidon to bring the carruca inside as well."
Corin says, "ok :) where did you think we'd be? *grin*"
Bodoni (okie. :))
Corin says, "cool"
Renard says, "it's just that we are her guards, I wouldn't think we'd allow us to be coralled off like that. If we're closer to the gate, then I wouldn't have any other objections."
GM says, "so you can decide whether to escalate or not based on that."
Corin says, "It seemed the two guards couldnt stop us all from moving around."
GM says, "*** END SESSION ***"
