Session Log 3/18/2001 Log

-- Start log: Sunday, March 18, 2001 9:15:28 am LunaSoft MOO time --

Bodoni gives a thumbs up "Ready here."
GM says, "*** START SESSION ***"
GM says, "we left you last time with Corin in Lugdunum, spreading rumors, and the rest of you on a river bank along the Savus, south of Lugdunum. dawn approaches..."
GM says, "Corin spreads the word that he hired some goons to free Joseph and then goes to meet Augax at the docks. He arrives to find the boatmen loading the last provisions, and hops aboard. The moorings are untied as the sun rises."
GM says, "The boat is a fat ungainly barge, lying low on the water, and carrying only the two of you, plus four boatmen. They steer the boat into the current of the river and you head downstream."
GM says, "Eventually you see the mirror flashing in the trees along the west bank and the boatmen steer you towards it. Corin has told Augax about Joseph's situation, so Augax takes an axe and some spare clothing and goes ashore to cut off the chains away from the boatmen, to avoid too many uncomfortable questions."
Corin says, "(barge reminds me of a woman last night)"
GM says, "(ooc: forgot to don your beer goggles, eh?)"
Corin says, "(ooc: so does Jospeh lose an arm in the process?)"
Renard says, "Augax, Johan here can probably cut through those chains with one swipe..."
Johan says, "Can I have that axe when yiou're done? =P"
Johan says, "Just hold still..."
GM says, "Augax hands Johan the axe."
Renard says, "Augax. You're trust of us has impressed us greatly. I think I speak for us all, that we shall be devoted servants to you."
GM says, "you find a flat stone and lay the length of chain on it. there's about 10 inches available to aim at."
Johan breaks the chains....=P
Corin says, "(:ooc a critical miss does what? *grin*)"
Bodoni nods "Aye, 'tis a virtuous think ye did, Augax."
GM says, "[Augax] i perceived that you were trustworthy folk, and i am glad to see that i was not mistaken."
Johan rolls 3 + 0.
Result [6 1 2] = 9 + 0 = 9.
Corin meanwhile lays down in the barge, exhausted from the last 48 hours.
GM says, "(i'll assume that's an AOA at +4 to hit to minimize the chance of missing, right?)"
Bodoni says, "As a former soldier of Rome, I could do..would do..nothing else."
Johan says, "he he sure......"
Corin says, "(ooc: he'd defend a little due to the richochet possibility, when the limb, oops i mean chain gois flying)"
GM says, "you made it easily, so roll damage... 2d+1"
Johan says, "2d+1 =("
Johan rolls 2 + 1.
Result [3 1] = 4 + 1 = 5.
Johan trips.
GM says, "you do some damage, but the chain holds."
Johan says, "I'll take another whack at +2 damage...."
GM says, "ok, roll em"
Johan says, "Hold still.."
Johan rolls 3 + 0.
Result [1 3 5] = 9 + 0 = 9.
Johan rolls 3 + -1.
Result [2 2 6] = 10 + -1 = 9.
Bodoni watches with interest
GM says, "(if you miss, it's a roll against a 9 to hit joseph's arm, you understand...)"
GM says, "the chain parts. now the other chain? :)"
Corin says, "(the gm is merciless *grin*)"
Corin says, "(he wants another one-armed pc)"
Johan smiles.
Johan rolls 3 + 0.
Result [3 2 1] = 6 + 0 = 6.
Johan rolls 3 + -1.
Result [1 3 2] = 6 + -1 = 5.
Johan pouts.
GM says, "(woulda been a critical if you'd taken the +4 to hit)"
Johan swings again...harder.
GM says, "that'll need another whack."
Johan rolls 3 + 0.
Result [6 5 2] = 13 + 0 = 13.
Johan rolls 3 + -1.
Result [1 5 5] = 11 + -1 = 10.
Bodoni looks at Renard with some bemusement
Johan grumbles.
Corin says, "(what would be a miss?)"
Renard notices Bodoni, shrugs?
GM says, "that parts it. joseph is free!"
Johan says, "Naxt?!"
Renard [to GM]: how loud were those four strikes?
GM says, "he stretches his arms gratefully."
Corin says, "((bring the stones, nice momento's)"
Bodoni look Johan
GM [to Renard]: they'll be heard, but you'll just chop down a sapling and say you were looking for a good source for a new bow.
Bodoni (hehe... oopsie... :P)
Johan looks at the one-handed axe...i mean HATCHET
Johan says, "new bow?!"
Bodoni claps Johan on the back "Good, lad!"
GM [to Johan]: it's a normal axe.
Johan says, "isnt that swing+2?"
GM [to Johan]: as far as i can see, yes.
Johan says, "uhhh...OK"
Renard [to GM]: are the metal cuffs off joseph, or just the chains?
GM [to Johan]: oh, i see what you're saying. you should have gotten 2d+2 normal damage, not 2d+1. sorry, i was looking at a different char sheet. my bad, but it wouldn't have changed the results.
Johan nods.
GM [to Renard]: only the heavy blocks. the metal cuffs are still locked to his wrists.
Johan says, "Just put your wrisdts down there....=)"
Renard [to GM]: how do we break those?
Corin says, "(Joseph can pick at them himself at his leisure)"
Johan won't miss...probably
Bodoni looks unsure "I think those should be taken off in a less 'bladed' manner. No offense, Johan."
GM [to Renard]: a heavy rock could smash the lock.
Johan grins.
Johan says, "I'll smash his hand...I mean lock with a rock"
Johan says, "I have half a point in rock"
Johan laughs.
Johan says, "roll?"
Bodoni looks oddly at Johan "A 'point' in rock?"
GM [to Johan]: one sec
Johan grins.
Bodoni looks to Renard "What's he saying, then?"
Johan says, "(rock throwing really...)"
GM [to Johan]: you'll be at -4 to hit the small target. you'll get normal thrust damage (treating it as a punch, but with +2 for the rock). note that it's not the same as rock throwing, but i will base it off brawling rather than straight DX.
Johan says, "I'll go +4 to hit"
GM says, "(good choice, i think) ok, roll"
Johan rolls 3 + 0.
Result [2 3 5] = 10 + 0 = 10.
GM says, "hit."
Bodoni rubs a hand over his ruddy face "I'm not sure this is the best of ideas."
Johan says, "what's damagew? 1d?"
GM says, "right"
Johan rolls 1 + 0.
Result [1] = 1 + 0 = 1.
Bodoni Said before Johan thows the rock)
Johan says, "+1 for brawling?"
Johan pouts.
Johan bangs again.
Johan rolls 3 + 0.
Result [3 5 3] = 11 + 0 = 11.
Johan says, "hold still"
GM says, "even with a +1, you'd need to hit again."
Johan rolls 1 + 0.
Result [6] = 6 + 0 = 6.
GM says, "ok, that hits."
GM says, "that lock breaks."
Johan looks more satisfied
Johan says, "other hand?"
Johan rolls 3 + 0.
Result [3 2 4] = 9 + 0 = 9.
Johan rolls 1 + 0.
Result [6] = 6 + 0 = 6.
Johan spits.
GM says, "as does the other one."
Corin says, "(he rolled one die for a six and hit *grin*)"
Johan says, "This IS fun.!"
Johan says, "Naxt?!"
GM says, "anything else you want to do before you get on the barge? i hope no one is afraid of the water. :)"
Bodoni is impressed with Johan's aim
Renard hugs brother Johan, pats his head, 'Good boy!'
Johan feels useful.
Bodoni boards the barge when everyone else does
Johan crawls atop the barge.
GM says, "btw, quick damage summary for everyone."
Corin is sleeping soundly in non-conspicuous spot.
GM says, "joseph is nursing a minor leg injury; johan has minor injuries on both legs."
Renard [to GM]: no infections, though...?
Johan doesn't mind.
Corin says, "(brb - need more water, dehydrated)"
GM says, "joseph and caralchis are also each still sore from getting branded by the slaver's mark, but renard and johan have shrugged theirs off."
GM [to Renard]: nope. not yet, in any case. johan just sustained his leg injuries last night. they're looking good so far, though.
Bodoni (Am I uninjured, GM?)
Johan washes it off in the water
Corin says, "b"
Renard says, "Ok, let's bury these chains and get rolling, eh Augax?"
GM [to Bodoni]: yes.
Bodoni (Hm. Not bad for an ol' fart. Heh.)
GM says, "[Augax] i agree. we should get far away from here. my connections in Britannia do me little good here."
Corin says, "(I presume my shoulder horse bite injury is fully healed by now?)"
GM [to Corin]: yes, it is.
Johan sails the ocean blue.
GM says, "you bury the chains simply by lifting this flat rock you've been using and stuffing them underneath. looks pretty good - they'd only be found if someone knew where to look."
GM says, "[Augax] next stop, the port of Massilia!"
Renard turns to Augax -- you said Brittania? Aren't there sorcerous druids and fairies up there?
GM says, "you board the barge and the boatmen, looking curiously at the new passengers, push off and get the boat centered in the stream."
Johan stares with wonder at the complexity of it all.
GM says, "[Augax] aye, that it is."
Caralchis paces around on the barge a bit, then tries to find somewhere comfortable to sit
Johan sits in the middle.
GM says, "[Augax] Christianity has sadly faded from the memories of many, now that the Romans have left."
GM says, "[Augax] only a few of us remain to battle for our Savior."
Corin says, "(I lost my jeweled dagger at Euric's :( )"
Johan says, "Is he battling druids and pixies?"
Bodoni (I lost all my cash. Including the stuff I'd won by gambling. :()
Renard sits back, thinking to himself, looking somewhat anxious in his thoughts...
Renard folds his hands, starts praying to himself...
Johan keeps one eye out for pixies.. those little devils.
Bodoni sits down for a bit, but then falls quickly asleep, the night's watch finally having taken its toll on him
GM says, "the barge creeps down the river steadily, and within two days of steady travel, you reach Massilia."
Bodoni along the way he snore loud enought to wake the hallowed dead
Corin looks curiously at this new place, Massilia.
Bodoni (ug! Bodoni, along the way, snores loud enough to wake the hallowed dead)
Bodoni watches with interest this new location as we come to it
GM says, "the river has been widening for hours as you approach the city, and you can see a sight only two of you have ever seen before as you moor to the riverside docks: the Mediterranean Sea."
Johan gasps.
Bodoni (Er...which one of us have seen it before?)
GM says, "it stretches out, a wide blue expanse, more water than you've ever imagined. it's interesting how the brown river water merges with the bluer seawater."
GM [to Bodoni]: you and caralchis. you've traveled a bit.
Bodoni (That's what I thought. Couldn't remember. Going senile, Ah guess. heh)
Corin stares with amazement at all the water.
GM [to Bodoni]: (so perhaps it's new to you as well, in your 'second childhood' :)
Bodoni leans over to Caralchis "I never tire of this sight. Truly the sea is an amazing place."
Caralchis smiles and breathes in the sea-smell
GM says, "[Augax] we'll only be here two days, if all goes well. stay out of trouble! i need to complete our provisioning for the trip, and ensure that the ship i hired is ready to go."
Renard [to GM]: did we learn anything from Augax -- we would have tried to get him to talk of his background and plans for us...
Caralchis says, "In this we are certainly in agreement"
GM [to Renard]: right. i'll try to summarize what you've learned on the barge.
Renard [to Augax]: Perhaps you'll arrange for quarters where we can stay out of sight -- in case Euric's sent bounty hunters after us?
Caralchis says, "How one can see this sight and not be impressed, I do not know."
Bodoni nods at Caralchis' pronouncement
Johan wonders what happened to poor Portia.
GM says, "Augax is from Britannia, and he's in the service of a local king there, name of Farthwys, who is a staunch Christian."
Caralchis has been wondering about Portia consistently
GM says, "his tribe has had some success, but is continually raided and hemmed in on every side by non-Christian tribes, Angles, Saxons, Picts, who practice the Old Religion."
Corin has been dreaming about Portia consistently.
Bodoni has thought little of Portia, mostly due to his actively trying to block out those thoughts
GM [to Renard]: [Augax] yes.
GM says, "Augax has been sent to retrieve holy relics to help in their struggle. he thinks he's on to something on this island you're going to."
Corin asks how his paths have crossed with Euric before.
GM says, "[Augax] i have done business in these parts for many years. you can't do business in Lugdunum without knowing Lord Euric."
Corin says, "ah, and your dislike of him is due to his business ethics?"
GM says, "[Augax] he is not the man his father was."
Corin nods. "So I heard."
Caralchis says, "With any luck Portia will be able to reform him!"
GM says, "[Augax] (with a wry grin) perhaps."
Corin scowls at the thought of Euric with Portia.
Johan says, "So, we're looking for saint's bones?"
Bodoni doesn't laugh or chuckle at Caralchis' pronouncment
GM says, "[Augax] this relic is far holier than mere saint's bones, Johan. this one has been touched and used by the Savior himself."
Johan whistles.
GM says, "[Augax] you are perhaps familiar with the story of the Last Supper?"
Johan bows his head in reverence.
Johan says, "not really... I missed supper."
Bodoni looks stunned
Corin never understood all this religous stuff, and listens in somewhat of awe and disbelief.
Caralchis perks up at the mention of the last supper
Johan is hungry. Does the inn have meat?
GM says, "[Augax] (smiling) but of course, you are hungry and such stories are dull to the uninitiated. another time, maybe."
GM says, "Massilia is a town that used to be bigger and more important than it is now."
GM says, "there are damaged and unused buildings in many parts, especially around the edges of town, and many of the docks have rotted into the water."
Renard [to Augax:]: it may be that our rescue of Joseph bodes well for this quest. he's been educated with religion.
Bodoni perks up at the mention of food, but is still drawn in by the story
GM says, "Augax finds a dirty, rowdy little inn near the seaward docks. he tells you that no one will ask awkward questions here - everyone has a seedy past."
Bodoni (GM, how long have we been away from home?)
GM says, "the seaward docks are also in generally poor condition. only a few ships are moored there, including one about 30 feet in length that Augax points out."
GM [to Bodoni]: only 3 weeks or so.
Bodoni (Got it. Thanks.)
Corin thinks of his mother, and wonders how she is doing.
Corin gratefully sets foot on land again; this boating thing makes him a little uneasy.
GM says, "[Joseph] pa, i wanted to write a letter back home, to Father Theudar."
Corin [to Joseph]: Could you say hi to my mother for me?
GM says, "[Augax] see that one? that's the one i hired. nice, eh?"
Corin says, "Tell her I am ok?"
Bodoni nods to Joseph, a fine idea lad, a fine idea
GM says, "[Joseph] gladly, Corin, gladly."
Corin smiles gratefully.
Bodoni perks up, we shall make it a group letter, then. To mine family as well
Bodoni (Should be Bodoni perks up "we shall.....")
GM says, "(well, Joseph IS your son, so his family is your family. senility again, eh?)"
Renard says, "Include a word for our Pop, would ya Joseph...?"
Bodoni (I think he knows what I mean... hehehe... ;D....*Hangs head* Yes...senility.. ;D)
GM says, "[Joseph] Corin, can you buy a sheepskin and a quill and ink? i realize that i have nothing to write with or on."
Corin nods. "I will go buy some."
Johan wants to watch Joseph write.
Corin says, "ANyone want to come for a stroll?"
Corin says, "Check out this new place."
Johan says, "nah.i want to eat."
Bodoni says, "I too feel the pangs of hunger. I should partake of food first. From what Augax has told us, we have a long, arduous journey before us. We should be strong in spirit as well as body."
Bodoni laughs rather loudly
GM says, "actually, i'd like to fast-forward here unless you have specific things you'd like to do. otherwise, we can just assume corin buys the stuff (subtract $30, corin), joseph writes his letter and gives it to the local cleric to send by the next available means north, two days pass uneventfully."
Renard [to all]: Let's just rest for a few days and stay out of trouble for once!
Corin agrees.
Johan nods.
GM says, "ok. johan needs to heal up as well. you spend the two days eating, drinking moderately, and talking to the other inn patrons."
GM says, "you hear some pretty tall tales, of enormous whales, epic battles with fish, terrible storms, and vicious pirates. sounds like the sea is a pretty exciting place!"
Johan heals up.
Bodoni enjoys his stay very much, eating and drinking as much as will be allowed (big surprise there, eh?)
GM says, "everyone's minor injuries heal"
GM says, "you also meet the crew of the ship - dubbed the Rilia Pulcinella - which consists of five people: a captain and four others."
GM says, "they're experienced mariners, usually fishermen, who appear to know what they're doing."
GM says, "the last day before you leave, you help Augax load his provisions. there is lots of food, casks of fresh water and wine, extra spears and arrows, and other adventuring equipment. Augax is obviously well-funded."
Caralchis (no blades?)
Corin makes himself useful, helping Augax to load the supplies.
Corin says, "(can I make arrows?)"
GM [to Corin]: nope. that's a specialized skill.
GM [to Caralchis]: there are knives, and a couple of swords. plus two axes.
GM [to Caralchis]: one of the axes is for woodcutting... the other is a battleaxe.
Johan says, "Big axes? (2 handed?)"
GM says, "the battleaxe is two handed :)"
Johan looks at Renard.
Renard smiles at brother, as he looks over the axes...
Caralchis says, "My best weapon is the sword, so I'd like to claim one if no one objects"
Renard [to Augax,]: might we get another of these battle axes? Perhaps a couple of smaller throwing axes?
Corin remembers he still has the glass far-seeing device.
Bodoni looks and sees there are no mace weapons, resigns himself to one of the swords if no one objects to it
GM says, "[Augax] throwing axes? i've never heard of such a thing!"
GM says, "[Augax] this i must see."
GM says, "[Augax] could you throw, say, this one? (he picks up the regular woodcutting axe)"
Johan proudly tells Augax how he broke the chains from Joseph.
Renard [to Johan]: uh, he was watching you...
GM says, "yeah, he was right there, he knows how skilled you are."
Renard [to Augax:]: well, brother and I got good at throwing these smaller, hand-hatchet. These larger ones are too unwieldy...
Johan tells him anyway.
GM says, "[Augax] (skeptically) ok, let's go see."
GM says, "he leads you to his source for this sort of thing, a blacksmith."
GM says, "Augax tells the smith that he wants a small hatchet for throwing, and the smith roars with laughter, but finds a smaller hatchet and hands it over."
Johan looks worried.
Renard [to GM]: is it balanced?
Johan nods.
GM [to Renard]: it's not what you're used to, but it's not too bad.
Renard looks for a tree, aims, and throws...
GM says, "[Augax] all right then, see that target over there? let's see you hit it from here (it's 15 yards away)."
Renard [to GM]: the net acc+penalty being what?
GM says, "-5 for range, +3 for aiming, +1 for Acc."
Renard rolls 3 + 0.
Result [5 1 2] = 8 + 0 = 8.
Renard grins big
Johan cheers.
GM says, "(thwack!) the axe buries itself in the target."
GM says, "[Augax] very impressive! i never would have imagined. can you do that, too, Johan?"
Johan shrug
Johan tries
Johan rolls 3 + 0.
Result [5 1 5] = 11 + 0 = 11.
Bodoni (THis is where they scream 'Magicker!' and burn you both at the stake... ;D)
GM says, "Johan retrieves the axe, moves back, aims and throws. Thwack! The axe is on the edge of the target, but it hits."
GM says, "Augax buys four hatchets."
Renard says, "...and the other battleaxe?"
Johan tries to show Corin how to do it.
Corin hefts the axe in his hand uncertainly.
Corin says, "I can throw a knife, but not an axe.""
Johan says, "You just throw it harder."
Bodoni looks about the smith's shop
Corin says, "It's a lot heavier and dont feel the same as the knives I've thrown."
Bodoni (anything different from home, GM?)
GM says, "(ooc: these battleaxes are 2-handed, and only one of you has the skill. why exactly do you want two?)"
Johan sighs with disappointment.
Renard [to GM]: you're right - I use single-handed ones... am I supposed to use the wood-axe, then?
Corin looks at his old sword and compares them to the new ones in the store.
Johan says, "buy a shield"
GM [to Bodoni]: not radically. it's the same business.
Renard [to GM]: actually, how about a pick?
GM [to Renard]: it would work fine - it's sort of a hybrid.
Bodoni looks at the sword he's taken up (How's it look GM, general quality?)
Renard nudges Johan, "Imagine us - you with that battleaxe, and me with a real war-pick. who would dare?
Johan looks over the helmets.
Johan says, "I've always wanted one of those big giant ones so you can't even see."
Johan says, ""Yeah, Renard, but those pixies are magic!"
GM says, "[Augax] it's time to go. Captain Remigio is ready to set sail."
Johan shuffles along.
GM [to Bodoni]: yeah, looks to be normal quality.
Bodoni makes his way out of the shop, with the others
Renard frowns, 'well, we're not going to brittania - we're going to some isle in this sea'
Bodoni studies the blade, compairing it to his own works
Johan says, "Oh. I got confused... What's an isle?"
Renard [to Johan]: Its a land in the sea, I guess.
Johan looks very confused now.
Bodoni says, "tis a small island mos tlikely, lad.""
Bodoni said to Johan
GM says, "[Augax] yes, Britannia is far to the north, in a different sea. the sea before us here is the great Mediterranean, the sea between the lands of Gallia and Italia to the north, and the African provinces to the south."
Bodoni (most likely)
Caralchis realizes he lost the sheath for his sword with the rest of his equipment... unless the sowrds come scabbarded which would be most pleasant
GM [to Caralchis]: blades come with scabbards
Johan says, "Do isles float? "
Caralchis (good good)
GM says, "[Augax] no, they're land like we're standing on now, but smaller. you'll see."
Caralchis says, "that could explain why I was never good at navigation...""
Renard says, "let's see this 'sea'"
Johan looks down at the land and shrugs.
GM says, "(luckily, Augax seems infinitely patient with Johan)"
Johan smiles.
Johan says, "Can I get a fishing pole?"
GM says, "you get down to the seaward docks, where the Rilia is ready to set off."
Johan says, "Johan's quite the fisherman"
GM says, "[Augax] i am sure the crew of our ship can show you their fishing equipment - they're professionals!"
Johan wants to catch a whale.
GM says, "any last-minute things to do on land? Augax is urging you on board otherwise."
Corin boards the ship.
Bodoni (I can see it now, Augax snaps and kills Johan two days into the journey...)
Johan says, "whatever that is"
Bodoni boards the ship
Johan chuckles.
Johan follows Renard.
Renard [to GM]: all aboard!
GM says, "it's still morning and there is a gentle breeze blowing out to sea. the lines are cast off, the crew jumps aboard and pushes away from the dock."
Johan is amazed.
GM says, "a very small square sail has been raised, and it catches the wind gamely and the ship eases away from the shore."
Caralchis gazes out at the wide expanse of the sea
GM says, "once the ship has put a little distance from the dock area, the small sail is taken down and a larger one is rigged in its place. once this one catches the wind, the ship really begins to move, and you settle down for the journey."
GM says, "Captain Remigio tells you that the weather is usually good at this time of year, and the winds are always favorable for north-south trips like yours. but he does mention that pirates have been a problem in the past, and is grateful to see that you are all skilled with weapons."
Corin looks across the wide expanse of water in awe.
Bodoni enjoys the view very well, helping to banish thoughts of home and Portia from his mind for the moment anyway.
GM says, "the shore gets very small in the distance, you realize that the sea really is a huge freakin' place."
Corin looks a little nervous as the land disappears from view.
Johan is more afraid of this than a big, armored warrior.
Johan says, "but he holds his head up, joking with Renard to alleviate their concerns."
Bodoni says, "The first time you see land vanish is always an unnerving one, lads. T'will pass in time."
GM says, "as you head farther from shore, the wind starts to shift to an easterly direction, and the sail is adjusted to account for that. the ship takes on a slight list. luckily, the wind is steady and not strong. the water is barely choppy, not enough to bother any of you."
Renard asks, to no one in particular, "What kind of fish live in such a pond, hm?
Corin gets out his glass far seeing device and scans the horizon.
Bodoni says, "Quite a myriad amount, I assure ye."
Johan says, "Imagine trying to explain saltwater."
GM says, "[Remigio] (to corin) what you got there?"
Johan says, "I suppose it's spoiled."
Corin looks at Remigio. "This lets me see far away things up close."
Corin says, "here, look thru this, but be careful not to drop it.""
GM says, "[Remigio] may i try it?"
Bodoni (I can hear it now! 'Magicker! Magicker!' throw them overboard!! ;D)
Corin says, "It belongs to a friend of mine, who I should return it to one day.""
GM says, "he raises it to his eye, looking back towards the land, and exclaims, "why, that is amazing! does it incorporate the spirit of a sea eagle?""
Renard [to GM]: where's remigio from?
Corin shrugs. "Dunno, but it works well, huh?"
GM says, "(not that he would use the word 'incorporate')"
Corin says, "(i was thinking similarly when I said business ethics earlier)"
Bodoni (Better keep an eye on this spy glass, Corin, lest it might vanish mysteriously ;D)
GM [to Renard]: he hasn't been talking to you guys much, but he speaks Gothic with a Romanized accent so you'd probably guess Italia.
GM says, "[Remigio] it doesn't belong to you? shame... i was thinking you might sell it."
Corin takes the telescope back and shakes his head. "No, it aint for sale."
Bodoni (and so, Remigio's plan to steal away the device begins... ];->)
GM says, "[Remigio] well, use it! if there are pirates about, the sooner we know about 'em, the better."
Corin nods and moves to the front of the ship, scanning the horizon.
GM says, "he claps you on the shoulder and moves on."
Bodoni (Remigio: "I dunno what happened Augax. Corin jus' fell over the side of the boat. He did let me keep the spy glass though. T'was a nice lad.." ];->)
Corin says, "(dont give him ideas Bodoni.)"
GM says, "all that day you sail, and the land disappears completely even using the far-seeing glass."
Bodoni (heheheh... ;D)
Johan looks out over the water and says, "Don't worry there's nobody else out here."
Renard says, "..."
GM says, "night falls, and still you sail on. when dawn breaks, you are still asea, with no land about anywhere."
GM says, "it's hard to believe you are making any progress at all, although the crew and Augax seem unconcerned."
Bodoni stands on the deck chatting with Caralchis, looking out over the sea
GM says, "anything in particular you want to do during the trip? if not, i'll fast-forward."
Corin says, "ff"
Bodoni (no worries, here)
GM says, "ok then. this day passes, and the next night, and then the next day Corin finally sees something while looking through his device."
Bodoni (a giant sea monster? :D)
Corin sits upright, studying the horizon carefully.
GM says, "to the southeast, a lowlying blot of green."
Corin says, "I see something!""
Corin points.
Bodoni turns to listen
Caralchis looks towards where Corin is pointing
Caralchis says, "what is it? pirates? land?"
GM says, "on phone - one sec"
Corin says, "I think its land."
Bodoni says, "Then we seem to be blessed to be spared an attack."
GM says, "[Remigio] (taking the device) good, good. once again the stars have been kind and have showed us the way."
Corin watches Remigio use his device.
GM says, "he hands it back when he's done."
Corin says, "Is that where we are going?"
GM says, "within hours you are within normal visual range of the island, and soon enough you can see it quite well. it looks uninhabited."
Renard says, "There's an 'isle', brother john. It does appear to be floating."
Bodoni (How long were we ar sea?)
GM [to Bodoni]: this is the third day, and it's evening.
Bodoni (alright, thanks...)
GM says, "Augax and Remigio look over the shore, and the point where you've arrived seems to be a good place to land."
GM says, "one sec"
Bodoni wonders aloud "Truly, it looks like a place devoid of life. I wonder if there are any people there?"
GM says, "Augax decides to go ahead and land and make camp here, then sail around the island the next day to see if anyone is living here."
Corin says, "I'm looking forward to setting my feet on land."
GM says, "the ship sails to within a hundred yards of shore, the anchor is thrown overboard, and a little four-man rowboat is lowered into the water."
GM says, "two of the crew row you in four groups ashore."
GM says, "they stay on shore with you that night, while Remigio and the other two crewmen remain aboard ship."
Bodoni (what's the area look like?)
Corin says, "(ooc:gotta go help a neighbour remove a fallen tree.)"
GM says, "the beach is a pebbly one, with only scraggly brush near the shoreline. no more than forty yards from the shoreline the trees start."
GM [to Corin]: can you make it 10 more minutes? we're nearly done.
Corin says, "(ok)"
Bodoni (Trees different from the ones back home?)
GM says, "the vegetation is pretty similar to what you saw around Massilia, which to your untrained eye looks about the same as in Praesus."
Bodoni (It's night time yet?)
Renard [to GM]: who are you calling 'untrained'? I've got a 9 in Agronomy ;)
Renard says, "Augax, what's the story here? What's this place called? Who rules it?"
GM says, "the sun is going down, so Augax directs you to set up camp, collect firewood, and get a fire started."
GM [to Renard]: i was calling Bodoni untrained. :) as for you... hey, why not? make an Agronomy roll.
Bodoni goes off you get some fire wood "I don't think I'll be long."
Caralchis goes off with Bodoni in search of firewood
Renard [to GM]: But I don't care about the plants...
Corin looks aorund with distrust.
GM says, "[Augax] the story, as i know it, is that this island was originally settled by a Greek colony centuries ago, but fell into disrepair and was never heard from again."
GM says, "[Augax] there are records of its having been settled, but that is all. as for how i came to know about it, that is a most interesting thing: i had a vision, an angelic vision."
Bodoni (DO we have to roll to find fire wood, or can it be assumed we gathered it and are present for Augax's story?)
Johan says, "Did the Savior eat supper here? What are looking for anyway?"
Corin says, "an angelic vision?"
GM [to Bodoni]: you can assume you're all sitting around the campfire :)
Corin says, "whats that?"
Johan says, "a hot girl?"
GM says, "[Augax] i was reading the story of this place, when i was struck blind by a light as bright as the sun."
Bodoni thinks, and laughs loudly "Greek colony eh. Mayhaps we'll find some long lost greek women, eh, Caralchis?"
Caralchis chuckles, "I wouldn't count anything out!"
Corin says, "You think there's women here, Bodoni?"
GM says, "[Augax] an image formed in my mind's eye, of the Savior's cup that i seek. an angel, beautiful and terrible all at once, gestured to me, then to it. then i awoke."
Bodoni settles a bit after hearing about the vision, but to Corin "I keep mine eyes and possibilites open no matter where I plant mine feet, lad."
GM says, "[Augax] the cup must be here."
Corin is beginning to think Augax is a little crazy.
GM says, "*** END SESSION ***"
