- Whois (to find out the registrar of the domain and company of management record) The email or name of record does not necessarily indicate the owner although it is a good indicator. Many Domain management companies use their own name as the registered agent to keep their client's info private.
- Test Ping to determine if website server is up from your location
- Windows:
- Open a new Terminal window (click on Start > Windows System >Command Prompt or search for "Command Prompt").
- Enter “ping” followed by the IP address or web address. To your website enter ping yourdomain.com.
- Press Return.
- Mac:
- Open a new Terminal window (click on Terminal located in Applications > Utilities).
- Enter “ping” followed by the IP address or web address. To your website enter ping yourdomain.com.
- Press Return.
- Dig (domain information groper) is a network administration command-line tool for querying Domain Name System (DNS) servers. ... dig is part of the BIND domain name server software suite.

- Reverse DNS to find out about an IP
- SSL - test SSL by using your browser. Enter https instead of just http. You will then see a lock or partially locked icon. Click on the icon to get more info. Not all sites have SSL as an SSL certificate must be installed properly first on your web server.
